STEPS OF THE HEALING
1. HEALING OF SIMON PETER’S MOTHER IN LAW - Matt 8:14-16; Luke 4:38-41
And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever. And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them. (Matt)

And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her. And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them. (Luke)

Step 1. Healer brings his theology to the world, not church dogma.
And he arose out of the synagogue,
S&H 342:2 The hour has struck when proof and demonstration, instead of opinion and dogma, are summoned to the support of Christianity, "making wise the simple."
S&H 45:7-9 (to ,) Jesus' deed was for the enlightenment of men and for the salvation of the whole world from sin,
S&H 138:27-30 Our Master said to every follower: "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature! . . . Heal the sick! . . . Love thy neighbor as thyself!"
S&H 138:30-31 It was this theology of Jesus which healed the sick and the sinning.

Step 2: Dwell in the harmonious basis of life, enter into the heart of prayer
and entered into Simon's house.
S&H 15:9 To enter into the heart of prayer, the door of the erring senses must be closed. Lips must be mute and materialism silent, that man may have audience with Spirit, the divine Principle, Love, which destroys all error.

Step 3: Claim made upon patient rather than claim being part of patient
And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever;
S&H 376:17-27 If the body is material, it cannot, for that very reason, suffer with a fever. Because the so-called material body is a mental concept and governed by mortal mind, it manifests only what that so-called mind expresses. Therefore the efficient remedy is to destroy the patient's false belief by both silently and audibly arguing the true facts in regard to harmonious being, — representing man as healthy instead of diseased, and showing that it is impossible for matter to suffer, to feel pain or heat, to be thirsty or sick. Destroy fear, and you end fever.
S&H 300:13-17 The temporal and unreal never touch the eternal and real. The mutable and imperfect never touch the immutable and perfect. The inharmonious and self-destructive never touch the harmonious and self-existent.

Step 4: Desire, hunger for righteousness
and they besought him for her.
S&H 285:27 As mortals reach, through knowledge of Christian Science, a higher sense, they will seek to learn, not from matter, but from the divine Principle, God, how to demonstrate the Christ, Truth, as the healing and saving power.
S&H 316:3-7 The real man being linked by Science to his Maker, mortals need only turn from sin and lose sight of mortal selfhood to find Christ, the real man and his relation to God, and to recognize the divine sonship.

Step 5: Dominion over human condition, watch over the patients perfection
And he stood over her,
S&H 137:1 His students saw this power of Truth heal the sick, cast out evil, raise the dead; but the ultimate of this wonderful work was not spiritually discerned, even by them, until after the crucifixion, when their immaculate Teacher stood before them, the victor over sickness, sin, disease, death, and the grave.
S&H 380:19 Nothing but the power of Truth can prevent the fear of error, and prove man's dominion over error.

Step 6: Denounce error (cast out fear)
and rebuked the fever;
S&H 233:29 The utterance of truth is designed to rebuke and destroy error. Why should truth not be efficient in sickness, which is solely the result of inharmony?
S&H 452:12-14 When error confronts you, withhold not the rebuke or the explanation which destroys error.

Step 7: seen as nothing fever (fear) returns to its nothingness
and it left her:
S&H 418:28 Speak the truth to every form of error. Tumors, ulcers, tubercles, inflammation, pain, deformed joints, are waking dream-shadows, dark images of mortal thought, which flee before the light of Truth.
S&H 406:19-25 Resist evil — error of every sort — and it will flee from you. Error is opposed to Life. We can, and ultimately shall, so rise as to avail ourselves in every direction of the supremacy of Truth over error, Life over death, and good over evil, and this growth will go on until we arrive at the fulness of God's idea, and no more fear that we shall be sick and die.

Step 8: Thought uplifted, rises to the Truth of being
and immediately she arose
S&H 262:10-14 We must reverse our feeble flutterings — our efforts to find life and truth in matter — and rise above the testimony of the material senses, above the mortal to the immortal idea of God.
S&H 393:12 Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man.
S&H 419:28 To succeed in healing, you must conquer your own fears as well as those of your patients, and rise into higher and holier consciousness.

Step 9: Patient’s gratitude expressed after understanding her true selfhood
and ministered unto them.
S&H 453:14-15 Teach your student that he must know himself before he can know others and minister to human needs.
S&H 3:25 Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech.
STEPS OF THE HEALING:

2. HEALING OF MAN FULL OF LEPROSY Luke 5

Step 1. HUMILITY
And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face.
Hymn 195:1
Not what I am, O Lord, but what Thou art;
That, that alone can be my soul's true rest;
Thy love, not mine, bids fear and doubt depart,
And stills the tumult of my troubled breast.
Mis 203:22 Tears flood the eyes, agony struggles, pride rebels, and a mortal seems a monster, a dark, impenetrable cloud of error; and falling on the bended knee of prayer, humble before God, he cries, "Save, or I perish." Thus Truth, searching the heart, neutralizes and destroys error.

Step 2: EXPECTATION OF CHRIST POWER
and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
Ret 86:9 Note well the falsity of this mortal self! Behold its vileness, and remember this poverty-stricken "stranger that is within thy gates." Cleanse every stain from this wanderer's soiled garments, wipe the dust from his feet and the tears from his eyes, that you may behold the real man, the fellow-saint of a holy household. There should be no blot on the escutcheon of our Christliness when we offer our gift upon the altar.

Step 3: CHRIST COMES TO THE FLESH
And he put forth his hand …
Ret 27:29-4 The divine hand led me into a new world of light and Life, a fresh universe — old to God, but new to His "little one." It became evident that the divine Mind alone must answer, and be found as the Life, or Principle, of all being; and that one must acquaint himself with God, if he would be at peace.

Step 4: TRANSFORAMTION OF CHARACTER
and touched him, saying, I will
Hymn 69:3
Give me, O Lord, a gentle, loving heart,
That I may learn to be more tender, kind,
And with Thy healing touch, each wound and smart
With Christly bands of Love and Truth to bind.
86:4-6 Jesus knew, as others did not, that it was not matter, but mortal mind, whose touch called for aid.
Mis 175:12-13 (to ,) The measure of Life shall increase by every spiritual touch,
Mis 306:26-28 Oh, may you feel this touch, — it is not the clasping of hands, nor a loved person present; it is more than this: it is a spiritual idea that lights your path!

Step 5. CLAIM MAN’S ABSOLUTE PURITY
be thou clean
My 262:1 God creates man perfect and eternal in His own image. Hence man is the image, idea, or likeness of perfection — an ideal which cannot fall from its inherent unity with divine Love, from its spotless purity and original perfection.

Step 6. THE LIE FINDS NOTHING TO HOLD TO IN THOUGHT
And immediately the leprosy departed from him.
380:4-5 Sickness and sin fall by their own weight.
447:20-22 Expose and denounce the claims of evil and disease in all their forms, but realize no reality in them.
447:27 The sick are not healed merely by declaring there is no sickness, but by knowing that there is none.

Step 7: SILENTLY COMMUNE WITH CHRIST NOT MAN
And he charged him to tell no man:
Pan 3:8 Certain moods of mind find an indefinable pleasure in stillness, soft, silent as the storm's sudden hush; for nature's stillness is voiced with a hum of harmony, the gentle murmur of early morn, the evening's closing vespers, and lyre of bird and brooklet.
15:16-20 In the quiet sanctuary of earnest longings, we must deny sin and plead God's allness. We must resolve to take up the cross, and go forth with honest hearts to work and watch for wisdom, Truth, and Love.
No 1:7-14 Small streams are noisy and rush precipitately; and babbling brooks fill the rivers till they rise in floods, demolishing bridges and overwhelming cities. So men, when thrilled by a new idea, are sometimes impatient; and, when public sentiment is aroused, are liable to be borne on by the current of feeling. They should then turn temporarily from the tumult, for the silent cultivation of the true idea and the quiet practice of its virtues.

Step 8: OFFER THY RECOGNITION (GIFT OF GRATITUDE) UPON THE ALTER OF CHRIST
but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
Ret 86:9 There should be no blot on the escutcheon of our Christliness when we offer our gift upon the altar.

STEPS OF THE HEALING:
3. HEALING OF PARALYSIS/Healing of the man sick of the palsy Mk 2 (Lk 5/ Mt 9)

Step 1. DECLARING CLAIM UPON HIM NOT A FACT OF HIS BEING:
a man which was taken with a palsy. Only error tries to TAKE or lay claim on our identity.
S&H 180: Before deciding that the body, matter, is disordered, one should ask, "Who art thou that repliest to Spirit? Can matter speak for itself, or does it hold the issues of life?" Matter, which can neither suffer nor enjoy, has no partnership with pain and pleasure, but mortal belief has such a partnership.

Step 2: RECEPTIVITY:
and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him
Mis 16: -- lay aside your material appendages, human opinions and doctrines, give up your more material religion with its rites and
ceremonies, put off your materia medica and hygiene as worse than useless — to sit at the feet of Jesus. Then, you meekly bow
before the Christ, the spiritual idea that our great Master gave of the power of God to heal and to save.

Step 3: HUNGERING AND THIRSTING AFTER RIGHTOUSNESS:
they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus…
S&H 341: First purify thought, then put thought into words, and words into deeds; and after much slipping and clambering, you will go up the scale of Science to the second rule, and be made ruler over many things. Fidelity finds its reward and its strength in exalted purpose. Seeking is not sufficient whereby to arrive at the results of Science: you must strive; and the glory of the strife comes of honesty and humility.

Step 4: SIN FALLS AWAY IN THE PRESENCE OF FAITH:
And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.
S&H 23: Faith, advanced to spiritual understanding, is the evidence gained from Spirit, which rebukes sin of every kind and establishes the claims of God.

Step 5. SIN AND DISEASE CONNECTED:
What reason ye in your hearts? Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?
No & Yes pg 42: God is not unable or unwilling to heal, and mortals are not compelled to have other gods before Him, and employ material forms to meet a mental want. The divine Spirit supplies all human needs. Jesus said to the sick, "Thy sins are forgiven thee; rise up and walk!" God's pardon is the destruction of all "the ills that flesh is heir to."

Step 6. EXPECTATION:
I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house
S&H 342: Christian Science awakens the sinner, reclaims the infidel, and raises from the couch of pain the helpless invalid.

Step 7: THOUGHT UPLIFTED:
And immediately he rose up before them and took up that whereon he lay
Ret 40: The physicians had given up the case and retired. I had stood by her side about fifteen minutes when the sick woman rose from her bed, dressed herself, and was well.
S&H 375: 19 Palsy is a belief that matter governs mortals, and can paralyze the body, making certain portions of it motionless. Destroy
the belief, show mortal mind that muscles have no power to be lost, for Mind is supreme, and you cure the palsy.

Step 8: LIBERATION:
and departed to his own house, glorifying God. (Comes home to his original perfection.)
Hymn 278
Pilgrim on earth, home and heaven are within thee,
Heir of the ages and child of the day.
Cared for, watched over, beloved and protected,
Walk thou with courage each step of the way

STEPS OF THE HEALING
4. Healing of woman bowed over 18 years- Luke 13: 12-17
Step 1: See sickness as a belief only
And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together,
S&H 227:26 The illusion of material sense, not divine law, has bound you, entangled your free limbs, crippled your capacities, enfeebled your body, and defaced the tablet of your being.
Step 2: Lift patient out of their false sense of hopelessness
and could in no wise lift up herself.
S&H 492:7-12 Being is holiness, harmony, immortality. It is already proved that a knowledge of this, even in small degree, will uplift the physical and moral standard of mortals, will increase longevity, will purify and elevate character. Thus progress will finally destroy all error, and bring immortality to light.
Step 3: Give no acknowledgement of power to the reality of the problem
And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him,
S&H 495:6 If sickness is true or the idea of Truth, you cannot destroy sickness, and it would be absurd to try. Then classify sickness and error as our Master did, when he spoke of the sick, "whom Satan hath bound," and find a sovereign antidote for error in the life-giving power of Truth acting on human belief, a power which opens the prison doors to such as are bound, and sets the captive free physically and morally.
Step 4: Expectation/Affirmation
and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
S&H 167:22-28 It is not wise to take a halting and half-way position or to expect to work equally with Spirit and matter, Truth and error. There is but one way — namely, God and His idea — which leads to spiritual being. The scientific government of the body must be attained through the divine Mind. It is impossible to gain control over the body in any other way.
S&H 219:7 No more can we say in Science that muscles give strength, that nerves give pain or pleasure, or that matter governs, and then expect that the result will be harmony. Not muscles, nerves, nor bones, but mortal mind makes the whole body "sick, and the whole heart faint;" whereas divine Mind heals.
Step 5: Extend your spiritual understanding to your patient
And he laid his hands on her:
S&H 38:16-18"The right hand of the Lord is exalted." It expresses spiritual power; otherwise the healing could not have been done spiritually.
Step 6: Liberation
and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
S&H 103:6-9 The destruction of the claims of mortal mind through Science, by which man can escape from sin and mortality, blesses the whole human family.

After the healing…

Step 7: World’s rejection of Truth
And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people,
There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.
S&H 132:20 To-day, as of yore, unconscious of the reappearing of the spiritual idea, blind belief shuts the door upon it, and condemns the cure of the sick and sinning if it is wrought on any but a material and a doctrinal theory.
Step 8: Expose the hidden resistance/uncover the error in popular thought
The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead
him away to watering?
S&H 132 Anticipating this rejection of idealism, of the true idea of God, — this salvation from all error, physical and mental, — Jesus asked, "When the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?"
Step 9: Declare man’s right of freedom
And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the
sabbath day?
S&H 106:7-9 God has endowed man with inalienable rights, among which are self-government, reason, and conscience.
S&H 226:14 God has built a higher platform of human rights, and He has built it on diviner claims. These claims are not made through code or creed, but in demonstration of "on earth peace, good-will toward men." Human codes, scholastic theology, material medicine and hygiene, fetter faith and spiritual understanding. Divine Science rends asunder these fetters, and man's birthright of sole allegiance to his Maker asserts itself.
Step 10: World’s recognition of falsity of claim
And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed:
S&H 227:24 Citizens of the world, accept the "glorious liberty of the children of God," and be free! This is your divine right. The illusion of material sense, not divine law, has bound you, entangled your free limbs, crippled your capacities, enfeebled your body, and defaced the tablet of your being.
Step 11: Gratitude and recognition of good.
and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
S&H 249:5 Let the "male and female" of God's creating appear. Let us feel the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us into newness of life and recognizing no mortal nor material power as able to destroy. Let us rejoice that we are subject to the divine "powers that be." Such is the true Science of being. Any other theory of Life, or God, is delusive and mythological.

STEPS OF THE HEALING

5. BLIND MAN BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD John 9:1-3
Step 1: KNOWLEDGE OF PRE-EXISTENCE
And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. (From his birth only, prior to that he was perfect-statement of his pre-existence as the perfect child—original perfection that MBE speaks of.)
Mis 189:8-12 (to :) The meek Nazarene's steadfast and true knowledge of preexistence, of the nature and the inseparability of God and
man, — made him mighty. Spiritual insight of Truth and Love antidotes and destroys the errors of flesh, and brings to light the true reflection:
Mis 14:8-18 It is urged that, from his original state of perfection, man has fallen into the imperfection that requires evil through which to develop good. Were we to admit this vague proposition, the Science of man could never be learned; for in order to learn Science, we begin with the correct statement, with harmony and its Principle; and if man has lost his Principle and its harmony, from evidences before him he is incapable of knowing the facts of existence and its concomitants: therefore to him evil is as real and eternal as good, God!
Step 2: BELIEF IN A PUNISHING GOD CAUSING ILLS, REBUKED-DISCIPLES VIEWPOINT CHANGED
And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? (Belief that he was born before his birth from parents sin)
S&H 178:13 Perhaps an adult has a deformity produced prior to his birth by the fright of his mother. When wrested from human belief
and based on Science or the divine Mind, to which all things are possible, that chronic case is not difficult to cure.
S&H 5:22-25 Prayer is not to be used as a confessional to cancel sin. Such an error would impede true religion. Sin is forgiven only as it is destroyed by Christ, — Truth and Life.
S&H 474:16 If sin, sickness, and death are as real as Life, Truth, and Love, then they must all be from the same source; God must be their author. Now Jesus came to destroy sin, sickness, and death; yet the Scriptures aver, "I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil." Is it possible, then, to believe that the evils which Jesus lived to destroy are real or the offspring of the divine will?
Step 3: DENIEL OF FALSE CLAIMS
Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents – sin not the author of blindness or anything else. God knows nothing of sin and would never punish man
S&H 419:10-12 Neither disease itself, sin, nor fear has the power to cause disease or a relapse.
S&H 228:3 The transmission of disease or of certain idiosyncrasies of mortal mind would be impossible if this great fact of being were
learned, — namely, that nothing inharmonious can enter being, for Life is God. Heredity is a prolific subject for mortal belief to pin
theories upon; but if we learn that nothing is real but the right, we shall have no dangerous inheritances, and fleshly ills will disappear.
Step 4: AFFIRMATION OF CHRIST PURPOSE
… but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work
S&H 136:1 Jesus established his church and maintained his mission on a spiritual foundation of Christ-healing. He taught his followers that his religion had a divine Principle, which would cast out error and heal both the sick and the sinning. He claimed no intelligence, action, nor life separate from God. Despite the persecution this brought upon him, he used his divine power to save men both bodily and spiritually.
S&H 136:1-5 Jesus established his church and maintained his mission on a spiritual foundation of Christ-healing. He taught his followers that his religion had a divine Principle, which would cast out error and heal both the sick and the sinning.
Hea 18:18-22 The doctrine of atonement never did anything for sickness or claimed to reach that woe; but Jesus' mission extended to the sick as much as to the sinner: he established his Messiahship on the basis that Christ, Truth, heals the sick.
Step 5: CHRIST, LIGHT REACHES REMOTEST DARKNESS
As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
S&H 589:16 JESUS. The highest human corporeal concept of the divine idea, rebuking and destroying error and bringing to light man's immortality.
S&H 393:25 When Jesus declares that "the light of the body is the eye," he certainly means that light depends upon Mind, not upon the complex humors, lenses, muscles, the iris and pupil, constituting the visual organism.
Step 6: CONTEMPT FOR MATTER’S CLAIMS
When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle,
Mis 170:26-32 Spitting was the Hebrew method of expressing the utmost contempt. So Jesus is recorded as having expressed contempt for the belief of material eyes as having any power to see. Having eyes, ye see not; and ears, ye hear not, he had just told them.
Step 7: COMMUNICATE WITH PATIENT AT HIS LEVEL-CHRIST COMES TO WHERE WE ARE AT.
and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
Mis 171:5-10 To suppose that Jesus did actually anoint the blind man's eyes with his spittle, is as absurd as to think, according to the report of some, that Christian Scientists sit in back-to-back seances with their patients, for the divine power to filter from vertebrae to vertebrae.
Step 8: PURITY THE PATH TO PERFECTION-CLEANING EVERY STAIN
And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent. )
My 262:1 God creates man perfect and eternal in His own image. Hence man is the image, idea, or likeness of perfection — an ideal which cannot fall from its inherent unity with divine Love, from its spotless purity and original perfection.
Ret 86:9-14 Note well the falsity of this mortal self! Behold its vileness, and remember this poverty-stricken "stranger that is within thy gates." Cleanse every stain from this wanderer's soiled garments, wipe the dust from his feet and the tears from his eyes, that you may behold the real man, the fellow-saint of a holy household.
Step 9: OBIENDIENCE AND LIBERATION
He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
S&H 489:17 How can man, reflecting God, be dependent on material means for knowing, hearing, seeing? Who dares to say that the senses of man can be at one time the medium for sinning against God, at another the medium for obeying God? An affirmative reply would contradict the Scripture, for the same fountain sendeth not forth sweet waters and bitter.
S&H 183:23-29 Obedience to Truth gives man power and strength. Submission to error superinduces loss of power. Truth casts out all evils and materialistic methods with the actual spiritual law, — the law which gives sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, voice to the dumb, feet to the lame.

STEPS OF THE TREATMENT
6. HEALING OF THE LAME MAN AT THE POOL OF BETHESDA John 5
1. Replace superstition with spiritual symbolism-replace five physical sense (five porches) with five spiritual senses and the moving of the waters with (spiritual inspiration/revelation)
1…there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue
Bethesda, having five porches.
3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
S&H 575:13-14 Spiritual teaching must always be by symbols.
S&H 117:24 Evidence drawn from the five physical senses relates solely to human reason; and because of opacity to the true light, human reason dimly reflects and feebly transmits Jesus' works and words. Truth is a revelation.
S&H 274:17 When what we erroneously term the five physical senses are misdirected, they are simply the manifested beliefs of mortal mind, which affirm that life, substance, and intelligence are material, instead of spiritual. These false beliefs and their products constitute the flesh, and the flesh wars against Spirit.
2. Desire and Faith required but not in matter: A stirring or awakening to Spirit heals disease.
3 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
S&H 1:11 Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds.
S&H 10:1 Prayer means that we desire to walk and will walk in the light so far as we receive it, even though with bleeding footsteps, and that waiting patiently on the Lord, we will leave our real desires to be rewarded by Him.
S&H 162:4-11 Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates and purifies. Christian Science acts as an alterative, neutralizing error with Truth. It changes the secretions, expels humors, dissolves tumors, relaxes rigid muscles, restores carious bones to soundness. The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind.
3. Declare that no case or problem, however chronic, is impossible to heal.
4 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
S&H 369:16-19 Jesus never asked if disease were acute or chronic, and he never recommended attention to laws of health, never gave drugs, never prayed to know if God were willing that a man should live.
S&H 178:14 When wrested from human belief and based on Science or the divine Mind, to which all things are possible, that chronic case is not difficult to cure.
4. See the unreality and reach out to awaken thought.
5 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
S&H 11:22-27 We know that a desire for holiness is requisite in order to gain holiness; but if we desire holiness above all else, we shall sacrifice everything for it. We must be willing to do this, that we may walk securely in the only practical road to holiness.
S&H 420:28-32 If it becomes necessary to startle mortal mind to break its dream of suffering, vehemently tell your patient that he must awake. Turn his gaze from the false evidence of the senses to the harmonious facts of Soul and immortal being.
5. Don’t withhold the spiritual help needed when the receptive thought hungers for healing.
6 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool:
S&H 420:10 Instruct the sick that they are not helpless victims, for if they will only accept Truth, they can resist disease and ward it off, as positively as they can the temptation to sin. This fact of Christian Science should be explained to invalids when they are in a fit mood to receive it, — when they will not array themselves against it, but are ready to become receptive to the new idea. The fact that Truth overcomes both disease and sin reassures depressed hope. It imparts a healthy stimulus to the body, and regulates the system. It increases or diminishes the action, as the case may require, better than any drug, alterative, or tonic.
6. See your patient as having (inalienable rights) equal access to his Father- Mother God.
…but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
S&H 106:9-14 Man is properly self-governed only when he is guided rightly and governed by his Maker, divine Truth and Love.
Man's rights are invaded when the divine order is interfered with, and the mental trespasser incurs the divine penalty due this crime.
S&H 21:9-12 If the disciple is advancing spiritually, he is striving to enter in. He constantly turns away from material sense, and looks
towards the imperishable things of Spirit.
7. Expectation; Declare the Truth with authority!
Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
S&H 262:10-14 We must reverse our feeble flutterings — our efforts to find life and truth in matter — and rise above the testimony of the material senses, above the mortal to the immortal idea of God.
S&H 390:13-23 Let your higher sense of justice destroy the false process of mortal opinions which you name law, and then you will not be confined to a sick-room nor laid upon a bed of suffering in payment of the last farthing, the last penalty demanded by error.
S&H 393:10 Exercise this God-given authority. Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action. Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man.
8. Liberation without conditions
9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked:
S&H 371:30 Truth is an alterative in the entire system, and can make it "every whit whole."
S&H 391:3 Blot out the images of mortal thought and its beliefs in sickness and sin. Then, when thou art delivered to the judgment of Truth, Christ, the judge will say, "Thou art whole!"
9. World thought and world rejection of Spiritual law has no basis
10 ¶ The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
S&H 62:31-1 Because mortals believe in material laws and reject the Science of Mind, this does
not make materiality first and the superior law of Soul last.
S&H 168:21 He healed sickness in defiance of what is called material law, but in accordance with God's law, the law of Mind.
10. Unmask claims of error and seeming power of sin
14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
S&H 381:4-12 Be no more willing to suffer the illusion that you are sick or that some disease is developing in the system, than you are to
yield to a sinful temptation on the ground that sin has its necessities. When infringing some supposed law, you say that
there is danger. This fear is the danger and induces the physical effects. We cannot in reality suffer from breaking anything except a
moral or spiritual law.

STEPS OF THE HEALING
7. LEPER CLEANSED –Mark1: 40-42

Step 1: COME TO THE CHRIST, TRUTH:
And there was a leper that came to him.
S&H 278:12-16: That matter is substantial or has life and sensation, is one of the false beliefs of mortals, and exists only in a
supposititious mortal consciousness. Hence, as we approach Spirit and Truth, we lose the consciousness of matter.
S&H 553:6: Mortal thought must obtain a better basis, get nearer the truth of being, or health will never be
universal, and harmony will never become the standard of man.

Step 2: STRIVE TO SEE MORE OF THE CHRIST:
Beseeching him
S&H 86:4-6: Jesus knew, as others did not, that it was not matter, but mortal mind, whose touch called for aid.

Step 3. HUMILITY NECESSARY…and kneeling down to him,
Mis 369:19-21 (to ;): Meekly we kneel at our Master's feet, for even a crumb that falleth from his table. We are hungry for Love, for the white-winged charity that heals and saves;
My 257:18 our: …our hearts are kneeling humbly. We own his grace, reviving and healing. At this immortal hour, all human hate, pride, greed, lust should bow and declare Christ's power, and the reign of Truth and Life divine should make man's being pure and blest.

Step 4: FAITH REQUIRED
…and saying unto him, if thou wilt thou canst make me clean
Mis 398:13 So, when day grows dark and cold, Tear or triumph harms, Lead Thy lambkins to the fold, Take them in Thine arms; Feed the hungry, heal the heart, Till the morning's beam; White as wool, ere they depart, Shepherd, wash them clean.

Step 5: REALIZATION OF THE CHRIST, TENDERLY, DIVINLEY NEAR:
And Jesus moved with compassion
Pul 18:14 And o'er earth's troubled, angry sea I see Christ walk, And come to me, and tenderly, Divinely talk.

Step 6: CHRIST POWER REACHES US WHERE WE ARE:
Put forth his hand
My 44:10-11 (to ;) The Christ is here, has come to individual consciousness;

Step 7: LET YOUR HEART BE OPEN TO THE CHRSTLY TOUCH:
And touched him
Mis 306:26-28: Oh, may you feel this touch, — it is not the clasping of hands, nor a loved person present; it is more than this: it is a spiritual idea that lights your path!
'01 9:19-26: The evil in human nature foams at the touch of good; it crieth out, "Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, . . . ? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God." The Holy Spirit takes of the things of God and showeth them unto the creature; and these things being spiritual, they disturb the carnal and destroy it; they are revolutionary, reformatory, and — now, as aforetime — they cast out evils and heal the sick.

Step 8: INSIPRED AFFIRMATION-PROMISE FULFILLED:
And said unto him, I will,
S&H 55:21: The promises will be fulfilled. The time for the reappearing of the divine healing is throughout all time; and whosoever layeth his earthly all on the altar of divine Science, drinketh of Christ's cup now, and is endued with the spirit and power of Christian healing.

Step 9: EXPECTATION AND ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY:
Be thou clean
Ret 86:9-14: Note well the falsity of this mortal self! Behold its vileness, and remember this poverty-stricken "stranger that is within thy gates." Cleanse every stain from this wanderer's soiled garments, wipe the dust from his feet and the tears from his eyes, that you may behold the real man, the fellow-saint of a holy household.

Step 10: OBIENDIENCE AND LIBERATION:
And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed.
S&H 418:28 Speak the truth to every form of error. Tumors, ulcers, tubercles, inflammation, pain, deformed joints, are waking dream-shadows, dark images of mortal thought, which flee before the light of Truth.
S&H 395:6-10 Like the great Exemplar, the healer should speak to disease as one having authority over it, leaving Soul to master the false evidences of the corporeal senses and to assert its claims over mortality and disease.

Step 11: EVERY STAIN IN THOUGHT MENTALLY CLEANSED:
…and he was cleansed
Ret 86:9-14 Note well the falsity of this mortal self! Behold its vileness, and remember this poverty-stricken "stranger that is within thy gates." Cleanse every stain from this wanderer's soiled garments, wipe the dust from his feet and the tears from his eyes, that you may behold the real man, the fellow-saint of a holy household.

STEPS OF THE HEALING

8. HEALING OF BLIND MAN AT BETHSAIDA WHO SAW MEN WALKING AS TREES Mark 8: 22-25

Step 1: CHRIST, TRUTH COMES TO YOU
And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him
Mis 96:28 It is not one mind acting upon another mind; it is not the transference of human images of thought to other minds; it is not supported by the evidence before the personal senses, — Science contradicts this evidence; it is not of the flesh, but of the Spirit. It is Christ come to destroy the power of the flesh; it is Truth over error; that understood, gives man ability to rise above the evidence of the senses, take hold of the eternal energies of Truth, and destroy mortal discord with immortal harmony, — the grand verities of being. It is not one mortal thought transmitted to another's thought from the human mind that holds within itself all evil.
Mis 397:5 And o'er earth's troubled, angry sea I see Christ walk, And come to me, and tenderly, Divinely talk.
S&H 583:10 CHRIST. The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error.

Step 2: BUT A TOUCH AND WE ARE HEALED
and besought him to touch him.
S&H 86:4-6 Jesus knew, as others did not, that it was not matter, but mortal mind, whose touch called for aid.
My 150:11 A heart touched and hallowed by one chord of Christian Science, can accomplish the full scale; but this heart must be honest and in earnest and never weary of struggling to be perfect — to reflect the divine Life, Truth, and Love.
Mis 306:26-28 Oh, may you feel this touch, — it is not the clasping of hands, nor a loved person present; it is more than this: it is a spiritual idea that lights your path!

Step 3: LET THE CHRIST LEAD YOU OUT OF MATERIAL ENVIORNMENT
And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town;
Mis 49:19-20 The spirit of Truth leads into all truth, and enables man to discern between the real and the unreal.
My 140:18 God is leading you onward and upward. Relinquishing a material form of communion advances it spiritually. The material form is a "Suffer it to be so now," and is abandoned so soon as God's Way-shower, Christ, points the advanced step. This instructs us how to be abased and how to abound.

Step 4: CONTEMPT FOR MATTER
… and when he had spit on his eyes
Mis 170:23-29 In the passage recording Jesus' proceedings with the blind man (Mark viii.) he is said to have spat upon the dust. Spitting was the Hebrew method of expressing the utmost contempt. So Jesus is recorded as having expressed contempt for the belief of material eyes as having any power to see.

Step 5: EXTENSION OF SPIRITUAL POWER
and put his hands upon him,
S&H 38:15-18 Here the word hands is used metaphorically, as in the text, "The right hand of the Lord is exalted." It expresses spiritual power; otherwise the healing could not have been done spiritually.

Step 6: CHRIST COMES TO WHERE WE ARE WITH COMPASSION
he asked him if he saw ought.
Mis 211:5-7 Our own vision must be clear to open the eyes of others, else the blind will lead the blind and both shall fall.

Step 7: BE IT SLOW OR FAST PROGRES ACKNOWLEDGED
And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
No 39:19 Prayer begets an awakened desire to be and do good. It makes new and scientific discoveries of God, of His goodness and power. It shows us more clearly than we saw before, what we already have and are; and most of all, it shows us what God is. Advancing in this light, we reflect it; and this light reveals the pure Mind-pictures, in silent prayer, even as photography grasps the solar light to portray the face of pleasant thought.
S&H 121:19-24 Until rebuked by clearer views of the everlasting facts, this false testimony of the eye deluded the judgment and induced false conclusions. Science shows appearances often to be erroneous, and corrects these errors by the simple rule that the greater controls the lesser.

Step 8: CHRIST FORCES US TO LOOK HIGHER, BEYOND MATTERS ILLUSION
After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up
Mis 355:16-21 To strike out right and left against the mist, never clears the vision; but to lift your head above it, is a sovereign panacea. Mental darkness is senseless error, neither intelligence nor power, and its victim is responsible for its supposititious presence. "Cast the beam out of thine own eye."

Step 9: OBIENDIENCE AND LIBERATION
and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
Mis 13:21 The Science of Soul reverses this proposition, overturns the testimony of the five erring senses, and reveals in clearer divinity the existence of good only; that is, of God and His idea.
Mis 156:9-11 …and when the mist shall melt away you will see clearly the signs of Truth and the heaven of Love within your hearts.

STEPS OF THE TREATMENT:
9. Healing of the Nobleman’s son at the point of death (Absent treatment) John 4: 46-53; Matt 8:5-13; Luke 7:1-10

Step 1. Escape from popularity and come home to be at one with your Father
So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine.
Pul 21:28 Popularity, self-aggrandizement, aught that can darken in any degree our spirituality, must be set aside. Only what feeds and fills the sentiment with unworldliness, can give peace and good will towards men.

Step 2. Receptivity, seeking the Christ
And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, …
S&H 10:14-15 Seeking is not sufficient. It is striving that enables us to enter.
S&H 46:7 The divine Spirit, which identified Jesus thus centuries ago, has spoken through the inspired Word and will speak through it in every age and clime. It is revealed to the receptive heart, and is again seen casting out evil and healing the sick.
S&H 323:32 Willingness to become as a little child and to leave the old for the new, renders thought receptive of the advanced idea. Gladness to leave the false landmarks and joy to see them disappear, — this disposition helps to precipitate the ultimate harmony. The purification of sense and self is a proof of progress. "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God."

Step 3. Truth equal to every emergency
…and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. (See Matt where he says he has soldiers under his command and that Jesus merely says the word.)
Mis 127:7 One thing I have greatly desired, and again earnestly request, namely, that Christian Scientists, here and elsewhere, pray daily for themselves; not verbally, nor on bended knee, but mentally, meekly, and importunately. When a hungry heart petitions the divine Father-Mother God for bread, it is not given a stone, — but more grace, obedience, and love. If this heart, humble and trustful, faithfully asks divine Love to feed it with the bread of heaven, health, holiness, it will be conformed to a fitness to receive the answer to its desire; then will flow into it the "river of His pleasure," the tributary of divine Love, and great growth in Christian Science will follow, — even that joy which finds one's own in another's good.

Step 4. Faith and understanding requisite
Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. (Speaking to his disciples. In Matt. He told the man that he had not seen such faith, no not in Israel)
S&H 150:12. Now, as then, signs and wonders are wrought in the metaphysical healing of physical disease; but these signs are only to demonstrate its divine origin, — to attest the reality of the higher mission of the Christ-power to take away the sins of the world.
S&H 14:6 " To be "present with the Lord" is to have, not mere emotional ecstasy or faith, but the actual demonstration and understanding of Life as revealed in Christian Science. To be "with the Lord" is to be in obedience to the law of God, to be absolutely governed by divine Love, — by Spirit, not by matter.

Step 5. The only cure is Truth!
The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.
S&H 332:23-26 Jesus was the son of a virgin. He was appointed to speak God's word and to appear to mortals in such a form of humanity as they could understand as well as perceive.
Mis 90:4 Jesus demonstrated sin and death to be powerless. This practical Truth saves from sin, and will save all who understand it.

Step 6. Expectation; absent treatment possible
Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth.
S&H 82:3-4 It is no more difficult to read the absent mind than it is to read the present.
S&H 179:7 Immortal Mind heals what eye hath not seen; but the spiritual capacity to apprehend thought and to heal by the Truth-power, is won only as man is found, not in self-righteousness, but reflecting the divine nature.

Step 7. Absolute faith that the Word is sufficient
And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.
S&H 1:1-11 The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God, — a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love. Regardless of what another may say or think on this subject, I speak from experience. Prayer, watching, and working, combined with self-immolation, are God's gracious means for accomplishing whatever has been successfully done for the Christianization and health of mankind. Thoughts unspoken are not unknown to the divine Mind.
S&H 390:4-9 We cannot deny that Life is self-sustained, and we should never deny the everlasting harmony of Soul, simply because, to the mortal senses, there is seeming discord. It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle, which produces apparent discord, and the right understanding of Him restores harmony.
S&H 395:6-10 Like the great Exemplar, the healer should speak to disease as one having authority over it, leaving Soul to master the false evidences of the corporeal senses and to assert its claims over mortality and disease.

Step 8. Proof/liberation
And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.
S&H 215:22 With its divine proof, Science reverses the evidence of material sense. Every quality and condition of mortality is lost, swallowed up in immortality. Mortal man is the antipode of immortal man in origin, in existence, and in his relation to God.
S&H 303:25 God, without the image and likeness of Himself, would be a nonentity, or Mind unexpressed. He would be without a witness or proof of His own nature. Spiritual man is the image or idea of God, an idea which cannot be lost nor separated from its divine Principle. When the evidence before the material senses yielded to spiritual sense, the apostle declared that nothing could alienate him from God, from the sweet sense and presence of Life and Truth.

STEPS OF THE HEALING-
10. Deaf Man w/Speech Impediment Healed and Speaks Plainly Mk 7: 31-35

Step 1: Bring those bound to the Truth for healing
32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech;,
S&H 226:25-29 The lame, the deaf, the dumb, the blind, the sick, the sensual, the sinner, I wished to save from the slavery of their own beliefs and from the educational systems of the Pharaohs, who to-day, as of yore, hold the children of Israel in bondage.

Step 2: Turn to the outstretched hand of Love
and they beseech him to put his hand upon him..
S&H 233:16 Already the shadow of His right hand rests upon the hour. Ye who can discern the face of the sky, — the sign material, — how much more should ye discern the sign mental, and compass the destruction of sin and sickness by overcoming the thoughts which produce them, and by understanding the spiritual idea which corrects and destroys them. To reveal this truth was our Master's mission to all mankind, including the hearts which rejected him.

Step 3: Turn to God in quiet solitude
33 And he took him aside from the multitude,
S&H 192:4-9 We are Christian Scientists, only as we quit our reliance upon that which is false and grasp the true. We are not Christian Scientists until we leave all for Christ. Human opinions are not spiritual. They come from the hearing of the ear, from corporeality instead of from Principle, and from the mortal instead of from the immortal.
S&H 399:27 The one Mind, God, contains no mortal opinions. All that is real is included in this immortal Mind.

Step 4: Reach your patient at their level
and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;
Hymn 253:4
And o'er earth's troubled, angry sea
I see Christ walk,
And come to me, and tenderly,
Divinely talk.
S&H 89:18 Mind is not necessarily dependent upon educational processes. It possesses of itself all beauty and poetry, and the power of expressing them. Spirit, God, is heard when the senses are silent. We are all capable of more than we do. The influence or action of Soul confers a freedom, which explains the phenomena of improvisation and the fervor of untutored lips.

Step 5: Turn to God completely
34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed,
'00 11:8-13 (to .) Thus it is with whatever turns mortals away from earth to heaven; we have the promise that "all things work together for good to them that love God," — love good. The human sigh for peace and love is answered and compensated by divine love.

Step 6: Expectation; be open to Spirit
and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
390:32 Rise in the conscious strength of the spirit of Truth to overthrow the plea of mortal mind, alias matter, arrayed against the supremacy of Spirit. Blot out the images of mortal thought and its beliefs in sickness and sin. Then, when thou art delivered to the judgment of Truth, Christ, the judge will say, "Thou art whole!"

Step 7: Liberation
35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed,
My 192:7-9 The ideal robe of Christ is seamless. Thou hast touched its hem, and thou art being healed. The risen Christ is thine.

Step 8: Speak the Truth
and he spake plain.
Pul 10:28-6 Speak out, O soul! This is the newborn of Spirit, this is His redeemed; this, His beloved. May the kingdom of God within you, — with you alway, — reascending, bear you outward, upward, heavenward. May the sweet song of silver-throated singers, making melody more real, and the organ's voice, as the sound of many waters, and the Word spoken in this sacred temple dedicated to the ever-present God — mingle with the joy of angels and rehearse your hearts' holy intents.

STEPS OF THE HEALING:

11. MAN WITH THE WITHERED HAND Luke 6: 6-10

STEP 1: Withhold not the word
And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
S&H 452:11-20 Your advancing course may provoke envy, but it will also attract respect. When error confronts you, withhold not the rebuke or the explanation which destroys error. …Right is radical. The teacher must know the truth himself. He must live it and love it, or he cannot impart it to others.

STEP 2: Beware of devouring wolves
And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him.
Mis 323:10 (From the Allegory) The descent and ascent are beset with peril, privation, temptation, toil, suffering. Venomous serpents hide among the rocks, beasts of prey prowl in the path, wolves in sheep's clothing are ready to devour; but the Stranger (Christ) meets and masters their secret and open attacks with serene confidence.

STEP 3: Read mortal mind
But he knew their thoughts,
S&H 85:7-12 Such intuitions reveal whatever constitutes and perpetuates harmony, enabling one to do good, but not evil. You will reach the perfect Science of healing when you are able to read the human mind after this manner and discern the error you would destroy.

STEP 4: Rise in the strength of Spirit
and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up,
S&H 390:32 Rise in the conscious strength of the spirit of Truth to overthrow the plea of mortal mind, alias matter, arrayed against the supremacy of Spirit. Blot out the images of mortal thought and its beliefs in sickness and sin. Then, when thou art delivered to the judgment of Truth, Christ, the judge will say, "Thou art whole!"

STEP 5: Step out from midst of material claim
and stand forth in the midst.
Mis 338:9 Faith illumined by works; the spiritual understanding which cannot choose but to labor and love; hope holding steadfastly to good in the midst of seething evil; charity that suffereth long and is kind, but cancels not sin until it be destroyed, — these afford the only rule I have found which demonstrates Christian Science.

STEP 6: faith and expectation/obedience
And he arose and stood forth.
My 10:2-5 It is inevitable that the transforming influence of Christian Science should improve the thought, enlarge the favorable expectation, and augment the achievements of its followers.

STEP 7: Mortal mind trapped by its own belief
Then said Jesus…, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?
Pe 11:17 Mortals, alias mortal minds, make the laws that govern their bodies, as directly as men pass legislative acts and enact penal codes; while the body, obedient to the legislation of mind, but ignorant of the law of belief, calls its own enactments "laws of matter." The legislators who are greatly responsible for all the woes of mankind are those leaders of public thought who are mistaken in their methods of humanity.

STEP 8: Watch and Watch Out
And looking round about upon them all,
My 232:26 If so-called watching produces fear or exhaustion and no good results, does that watch accord with Jesus' saying? It does not. Can watching as Christ demands harm you? It cannot. Then should not "watching out" mean, watching against a negative watch, alias, no watch, and gaining the spirit of true watching, even the spirit of our Master's command? It must mean that.

STEP 9: Come to the Christ – it is calling you
he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand.
S&H 398:7 These instances show the concessions which Jesus was willing to make to the popular ignorance of spiritual Life-laws. Often he gave no name to the distemper he cured. To the sufferer with the withered hand he said, "Stretch forth thine hand," and it "was restored whole, like as the other."

STEP 10: Obedience
And he did so:
S&H 14:9-15 To be "with the Lord" is to be in obedience to the law of God, to be absolutely governed by divine Love, — by Spirit, not by matter. Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual, — neither in nor of matter, — and the body will then utter no complaints.

STEP 11: Restoration and Liberation
and his hand was restored whole as the other.
S&H 425:24 Correct material belief by spiritual understanding, and Spirit will form you anew. You will never fear again except
to offend God, and you will never believe that heart or any portion of the body can destroy you.

STEPS OF THE HEALING
12. Healing of Epilepsy (violent lunacy) Mark 9:17-29/Matt 17:14-21/Luke 9: 38-43
And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.

1. Never fear that any case is too difficult.
He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you?
S&H 147: Jesus never spoke of disease as dangerous or as difficult to heal. When his students brought to him a case they had failed to heal, he said to them, "O faithless generation," implying that the requisite power to heal was in Mind.
2. Turn and seek the Christ ideal-Christ calls to you!
bring him unto me.
Mis 397: And o'er earth's troubled, angry sea I see Christ walk,
And come to me, and tenderly, Divinely talk.
3. Obedience
And they brought him unto him:
Mis 193: The next step for ecclesiasticism to take, is to admit that all Christians are properly called Scientists who follow the commands of our Lord and His Christ, Truth; and that no one is following his full command without this enlarged sense of the spirit and power of Christianity. "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do," is a radical and unmistakable declaration of the right and power of Christianity to heal; for this is Christlike, and includes the understanding of man's capabilities and spiritual power.
4. Resistance to the Truth
and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
S&H 97: It requires courage to utter truth; for the higher Truth lifts her voice, the louder will error scream, until its in articulate sound is forever silenced
in oblivion.
Ret 80: Though the divine rebuke is effectual to the pulling down of sin's strongholds, it may stir the human heart to resist Truth, before this heart becomes obediently receptive of the heavenly discipline.
5. Go back in time to remove the false belief that has been accepted as true.
And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him?
Ret 21: Mere historic incidents and personal events are frivolous and of no moment, unless they illustrate the ethics of Truth. To this end, but only to this end, such narrations may be admissible and advisable; but if spiritual conclusions are separated from their premises, the nexus is lost, and the argument, with its rightful conclusions, becomes correspondingly obscure. The human history needs to be revised, and the material record expunged.
6. Patient argues for the evidence – lingering doubt and resistance still evident
And he said, Of a child. And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy
him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
S&H 396: Avoid talking illness to the patient. Make no unnecessary inquiries relative to feelings or disease. Never startle with a discouraging remark about recovery, nor draw attention to certain symptoms as unfavorable, avoid speaking aloud the name of the disease. Never say beforehand how much you have to contend with in a case, nor encourage in the patient's thought the expectation of growing worse before a crisis is passed.
7. See through the claim and assure the patient of God’s power to save.
Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
S&H 415: The muscles, moving quickly or slowly and impelled or palsied by thought, represent the action of all the organs of the human system, including brain and viscera. To remove the error producing disorder, you must calm and instruct mortal mind with immortal Truth.
8. Healing not dependent on intellect but receptivity.
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou
mine unbelief.
S&H 46: The divine Spirit, which identified Jesus thus centuries ago, has spoken through the inspired Word and will speak through it in every age and clime. It is revealed to the receptive heart, and is again seen casting out evil and healing the sick.
S&H 23: "Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief!" expresses the helplessness of a blind faith; whereas the injunction, "Believe . . . and thou shalt be saved!" demands self-reliant trustworthiness, which includes spiritual understanding and confides all to God.
9. Speak to disease with authority and expectation of healing.
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto
him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
S&H 395: Like the great Exemplar, the healer should speak to disease as one having authority over it, leaving Soul to master the false evidences of the corporeal senses and to assert its claims over mortality and disease.
10. Error makes one last attempt to claim God’s man.
And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch
that many said, He is dead.
S&H 397: Sometimes Jesus called a disease by name, as when he said to the epileptic boy, "Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him." It is added that "the spirit [error] cried, and rent him sore and came out of him, and he was as one dead," — clear evidence that the malady was not material. These instances show the concessions which Jesus was willing to make to the popular ignorance of spiritual Life-laws. Often he gave no name to the distemper he cured.
11. Liberation.
But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
Mis 255: Man is not equal to his Maker. That which is formed is not cause, but effect; and has no underived power. But it is possible, and dutiful, to throw the weight of thought and action on the side of right, and to be thus lifted up. Man should be found not claiming equality with, but growing into, that altitude of Mind which was in Christ Jesus.
12. Absolute faith that comes from understanding.
And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast
him out? And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
My 222: When his disciples asked him why they could not heal that case, Jesus, the master Metaphysician, answered, "Because of your unbelief" (lack
of faith); and then continued: "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall
remove." Also he added: "This kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting" (refraining from admitting the claims of the senses).

STEPS OF THE HEALING
13. Healing of the Nobleman’s (Jairus) Daughter Matt 9; Mark 5:22-24 (to ;)
Understanding this healing requires reading it in the context that this urgent healing need was interrupted by the non-urgent healing of the woman with “an issue of blood” who touched Jesus. (Verses 25-34)

Step 1: Humility
22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
Mis 1:15-18 Humility is the stepping-stone to a higher recognition of Deity. The mounting sense gathers fresh forms and strange fire from the ashes of dissolving self, and drops the world.
Mis 354:22 Experience shows that humility is the first step in Christian Science, wherein all is controlled, not by man or laws material, but by wisdom, Truth, and Love.
Un 45:10-12 The egotist must come down and learn, in humility, that God never made evil. An evil ego, and his assumed power, are falsities.

Step 2: Seek the Christly touch; hunger and thirst for it.
23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
Hymn 69:3
Give me, O Lord, a gentle, loving heart,
That I may learn to be more tender, kind,
And with Thy healing touch, each wound and smart
With Christly bands of Love and Truth to bind.
My 40:2-8 She has desired for years to have her church able to give more adequate reception to those who hunger and thirst after practical righteousness; and we are sure that now the branch churches of The Mother Church will also enlarge their hospitality, so that these seekers everywhere may be satisfied.
Hymn 56:3
Thy truth unchanged hath ever stood;
Thou savest those that on Thee call;
To them that seek Thee Thou art good;
To them that find Thee, All in all.

Step 3: Let the Christ be present with you on your way.
24 And Jesus went with him;
Hymn 96: 3
The Great Physician liveth yet
Thy friend and guide to be;
The Healer by Gennesaret
Shall walk the rounds with thee.
S&H 337:7-10 For true happiness, man must harmonize with his Principle, divine Love; the Son must be in accord with the Father, in conformity with Christ.
Un 42:16 With Christ, Life was not merely a sense of existence, but a sense of might and ability to subdue material conditions. No wonder "people were astonished …”

Step 4: Error screams louder and claims you are too late.
35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
(It needs to be noted that the notice that the daughter died came while Jesus stopped to deal with and heal a woman who “touched him” in the press of the people that followed him.)
S&H 97:22 It requires courage to utter truth; for the higher Truth lifts her voice, the louder will error scream, until its inarticulate sound is forever silenced in oblivion.
S&H 427:30 Thought will waken from its own material declaration, "I am dead," to catch this trumpet-word of Truth, "There is no death, no inaction, diseased action, overaction, nor reaction."
S&H 386:16 A blundering despatch, mistakenly announcing the death of a friend, occasions the same grief that the friend's real death would bring. You think that your anguish is occasioned by your loss. Another despatch, correcting the mistake, heals your grief, and you learn that your suffering was merely the result of your belief. Thus it is with all sorrow, sickness, and death. You will learn at length that there is no cause for grief, and divine wisdom will then be understood. Error, not Truth, produces all the suffering on earth.

Step 5: Immediate refutation of evil
36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
S&H 18:10 Jesus acted boldly, against the accredited evidence of the senses, against Pharisaical creeds and practices, and he refuted all opponents with his healing power.
S&H 396:14 The refutation of the testimony of material sense is not a difficult task in view of the conceded falsity of this testimony. The refutation becomes arduous, not because the testimony of sin or disease is true, but solely on account of the tenacity of belief in its truth, due to the force of education and the overwhelming weight of opinions on the wrong side, — all teaching that the body suffers, as if matter could have sensation.
Pul 3:26 Perchance some one of you may say, "The evidence of spiritual verity in me is so small that I am afraid. I feel so far from victory over the flesh that to reach out for a present realization of my hope savors of temerity. Because of my own unfitness for such a spiritual animus my strength is naught and my faith fails." O thou "weak and infirm of purpose." Jesus said, "Be not afraid"!
S&H 410:29-30 Christian scientific practice begins with Christ's keynote of harmony, "Be not afraid!"

Step 6: Eliminate all world thought (“have the most perfect obtainable enviornment”)
37 And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
Pul 54:18-27 A careful reading of the accounts of his healings, in the light of modern science, shows that he observed, in his practice of mental therapeutics, the conditions of environment and harmonious influence that are essential to success. In the case of Jairus' daughter they are fully set forth. He kept the unbelievers away, "put them all out," and permitting only the father and mother, with his closest friends and followers, Peter, James, and John, in the chamber with him, and having thus the most perfect obtainable environment, he raised the daughter to life.

Step 7: Don’t be impressed by public opinion
38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
S&H 386:23-2 You will learn at length that there is no cause for grief, and divine wisdom will
then be understood. Error, not Truth, produces all the suffering on earth.
If a Christian Scientist had said, while you were laboring under the influence of the belief of
grief, "Your sorrow is without cause," you would not have understood him, although the
correctness of the assertion might afterwards be proved to you. So, when our friends pass from
our sight and we lament, that lamentation is needless and causeless. We shall perceive this to be
true when we grow into the understanding of Life, and know that there is no death.

Step 8: Speak the Truth and know the Truth in the face of disbelief and skepticism
39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.
S&H 209:11-13 Neither philosophy nor skepticism can hinder the march of the Science which reveals the supremacy of Mind.
S&H 252:4 Human ignorance of Mind and of the recuperative energies of Truth occasions the only skepticism regarding the pathology and theology of Christian Science.
When false human beliefs learn even a little of their own falsity, they begin to disappear. A knowledge of error and of its operations must precede that understanding of Truth which destroys error, until the entire mortal, material error finally disappears, and the eternal verity, man created by and of Spirit, is understood and recognized as the true likeness …
S&H 398:7-13 These instances show the concessions which Jesus was willing to make to the popular ignorance of spiritual Life-laws. Often he gave no name to the distemper he cured. To the synagogue ruler's daughter,

Step 9: Christ comes to the flesh (with faithful, worthy witnesses) to destroy all error
40 But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
S&H 583:10 CHRIST. The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error.
Ret 40:4-11 At one time I was called to speak before the Lyceum Club, at Westerly, Rhode Island. On my arrival my hostess told me that her next-door neighbor was dying. I asked permission to see her. It was granted, and with my hostess I went to the invalid's house.
The physicians had given up the case and retired. I had stood by her side about fifteen minutes when the sick woman rose from her bed, dressed herself, and was well.

Step 10: Expectation
41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
Pe 8:17-24 Mind, that governs the universe, governs every action of the body as directly as it moves a planet and controls the muscles of the arm. God grant that the trembling chords of human hope shall again be swept by the divine Talitha cumi, "Damsel, I say unto thee, arise." Then shall Christian Science again appear, to light our sepulchres with immortality.

Step 11: Obedience
42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years.
Ret 88:4 Another command of the Christ, his prime command, was that his followers should "raise the dead." He lifted his own body from the sepulchre. In him, Truth called the physical man from the tomb to health, and the so-called dead forthwith emerged into a higher manifestation of Life.

Step 12: Witnesses to the healing power
And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
S&H 411:10 If Spirit or the power of divine Love bear witness to the truth, this is the ultimatum, the scientific way, and the healing is instantaneous.

Step 13: No pearls before swine
43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it;
S&H 455:23-24 The All-wise does not bestow His highest trusts upon the unworthy.
S&H 272:16 Reading the thoughts of the people, he said: "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine."
S&H 15:31 Without a fitness for holiness, we cannot receive holiness.

Step 14: Feed the famished affections
and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
S&H 17:4-5 (to 2nd ;)
Give us this day our daily bread;
Give us grace for to-day; feed the famished affections;
S&H 389:28 A case of convulsions, produced by indigestion, came under my observation. In her belief the woman had chronic liver-complaint, and was then suffering from a complication of symptoms connected with this belief. I cured her in a few minutes. One instant she spoke despairingly of herself. The next minute she said, "My food is all digested, and I should like something more to eat."

STEPS OF THE HEALING
14. Jesus heals the ten lepers Luke 17:12-19
And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

Step 1: Receptivity-they met him. Jesus claimed man’s perfection only. Jesus sees the men, not the leprosy.
And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:
S&H 52:9-10 Their imperfections and impurity felt the ever-present rebuke of his perfection and purity.
S&H 333:19-23 Throughout all generations both before and after the Christian era, the Christ, as the spiritual idea, — the reflection of God, — has come with some measure of power and grace to all prepared to receive Christ, Truth.

Step 2: Patient’s desire-hungering for healing, spiritual growth.
And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
S&H 2:4 Yes, the desire which goes forth hungering after righteousness is blessed of our Father, and it does not return unto us void.
S&H 206:10 Will-power is capable of all evil. It can never heal the sick, for it is the prayer of the unrighteous; while the exercise of the sentiments — hope, faith, love — is the prayer of the righteous. This prayer, governed by Science instead of the senses, heals the sick.

Step 3: Separate claim from Patient. Jesus saw their perfection and the nothingness of the claim-thus they were safe to enter the Temple.
And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests.
S&H 369:16 Jesus never asked if disease were acute or chronic, and he never recommended attention to laws of health, never gave drugs, never prayed to know if God were willing that a man should live. He understood man, whose Life is God, to be immortal, and knew that man has not two lives, one to be destroyed and the other to be made indestructible.
S&H 381:31 Christ Jesus overruled the error which would impose penalties for transgressions of the physical laws of health; he annulled supposed laws of matter, opposed to the harmonies of Spirit, lacking divine authority and having only human approval for their sanction.

Step 4: Obedience, faith
And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
Pul 53:7-14 (to 2nd .) The condition which Jesus of Nazareth, on various occasions during the three years of his ministry on earth, declared to be essential, in the mind of both healer and patient, is contained in the one word — faith.
S&H 182:19-26 Obedience to material law prevents full obedience to spiritual law, — the law which overcomes material conditions and puts matter under the feet of Mind. Mortals entreat the divine Mind to heal the sick, and forthwith shut out the aid of Mind by using material means, thus working against themselves and their prayers and denying man's God-given ability to demonstrate Mind's sacred power.

Step 5: Give God the glory
And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
S&H 262:5-16 Christian Science takes naught from the perfection of God, but it
ascribes to Him the entire glory. By putting "off the old man with his deeds,"
mortals "put on immortality."
We cannot fathom the nature and quality of God's creation by diving into the shallows of mortal belief. We must reverse our feeble flutterings — our efforts to find life and truth in matter — and rise above the testimony of the material senses, above the mortal to the immortal idea of God. These clearer, higher views inspire the God-like man to reach the absolute centre and circumference of his being.

Step 6: Humility and gratitude essential to the healing
And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.
S&H 8:14-18 If we feel the aspiration, humility, gratitude, and love which our words express, — this God accepts; and it is wise not to try to deceive ourselves or others, for "there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed."

Step 7: Jesus recognizes his faithful
And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?
There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.
S&H 94:20-29 Of the ten lepers whom Jesus healed, but one returned to give God thanks, — that is, to acknowledge the divine Principle which had healed him. Our Master easily read the thoughts of mankind, and this insight better enabled him to direct those thoughts aright; but what would be said at this period of an infidel blasphemer who should hint that Jesus used his incisive power injuriously? Our Master read mortal mind on a scientific basis, that of the omnipresence of Mind.

Step 8: Liberation resulting from risen thought
And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.
Pul 53:7-14 (to 2nd .) Can drugs suddenly cure leprosy? When the ten lepers were cleansed and one returned to give thanks in Oriental phrase, Jesus said to him: "Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole." That was Christian Science.
.

STEPS OF THE TREATMENT
15. Healing of the man with the spirit of an unclean devil (Insanity) Mark 1: 21-27 & Luke 4:32-37
Step 1. Resisting Truth
(The man) …cried out with a loud voice, Saying, Let us alone.
My 211:9-20 All that error asks is to be let alone; even as in Jesus' time the unclean spirits cried out, "Let us alone; what have we to do with thee?"
Animal magnetism, in its ascending steps of evil, entices its victim by unseen, silent arguments. Reversing the modes of good, in their silent allurements to health and holiness, it impels mortal mind into error of thought, and tempts into the committal of acts foreign to the natural inclinations. The victims lose their individuality, and lend themselves as willing tools to carry out the designs of their worst enemies, even those who would induce their self-destruction.
Ret 80:12-15 Though the divine rebuke is effectual to the pulling down of sin's strongholds, it may stir the human heart to resist Truth, before this heart becomes obediently receptive of the heavenly discipline.
Step 2. Receptivity, seeking the Christ
what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.
'01 9:19 The evil in human nature foams at the touch of good; it crieth out, "Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, . . . ? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God." The Holy Spirit takes of the things of God and showeth them unto the creature; and these things being spiritual, they disturb the carnal and destroy it; they are revolutionary, reformatory, and — now, as aforetime — they cast out evils and heal the sick. He of God's household who loveth and liveth most the things of Spirit, receiveth them most; he speaketh wisely, for the spirit of his Father speaketh through him; he worketh well and healeth quickly, for the spirit giveth him liberty: "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
Un 49:16-2 There are not two realities of being, two opposite states of existence. One should
appear real to us, and the other unreal, or we lose the Science of being. Standing in no basic
Truth, we make "the worse appear the better reason," and the unreal masquerades as the real, in
our thought.
Evil is without Principle. Being destitute of Principle, it is devoid of Science. Hence it is undemonstrable, without proof. This gives me a clearer right to call evil a negation, than to affirm it to be something which God sees and knows, but which He straightway commands mortals to shun or relinquish, lest it destroy them. This notion of the destructibility of Mind implies the possibility of its defilement; but how can infinite Mind be defiled?
S&H 377:26-10 The cause of all so-called disease is mental, a mortal fear, a mistaken belief or conviction of the necessity and power of ill-health; also a fear that Mind is helpless to defend the life of man and incompetent to control it. Without this ignorant human belief, any circumstance is of itself powerless to produce suffering. It is latent belief in disease, as well as the fear of disease, which associates sickness with certain circumstances and causes the two to appear conjoined, even as poetry and music are reproduced in union by human memory. Disease has no intelligence. Unwittingly you sentence yourself to suffer. The understanding of this will enable you to commute this self-sentence, and meet every circumstance with truth. Disease is less than mind, and Mind can control it.
Without the so-called human mind, there can be no inflammatory nor torpid action of the system. Remove the error, and you destroy its
effects.
Step 3. Speak with authority to overthrow plea of mortal mind
And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
No 31:21 Physical and mental healing were one and the same with this master Metaphysician. If the evils called sin, sickness, and death had been forgiven in the generally accepted sense, they would have returned, to be again forgiven; but Jesus said to disease: "Come out of him, and enter no more into him." He said also: "If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death;" and "Whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven." The misinterpretation of such passages has retarded the progress of Christianity and the spiritualization of the race.
S&H 395:6-10 Like the great Exemplar, the healer should speak to disease as one having authority over it, leaving Soul to master the false evidences of the corporeal senses and to assert its claims over mortality and disease.
Step 4. No effect of the problem able to remain
And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.
S&H 494:30 Our Master cast out devils (evils) and healed the sick. It should be said of his followers also, that they cast fear and all evil out of themselves and others and heal the sick. God will heal the sick through man, whenever man is governed by God. Truth casts out error now as surely as it did nineteen centuries ago. All of Truth is not understood; hence its healing power is not fully demonstrated.
Mis 190:20 It could not have been a person that our great Master cast out of another person; therefore the devil herein referred to was an impersonal evil, or whatever worketh ill. In this case it was the evil of dumbness, an error of material sense, cast out by the spiritual truth of being; namely, that speech belongs to Mind instead of matter, and the wrong power, or the lost sense, must yield to the right sense, and exist in Mind.
Step 5. Absolute faith that the Word is sufficient
And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.
Mis 398:22 Saw ye my Saviour? Heard ye the glad sound? Felt ye the power of the Word? 'T was the Truth that made us free, And was found by you and me In the life and the love of our Lord.
Mis 99:19 In no other one thing seemed Jesus of Nazareth more divine than in his faith in the immortality of his words. …The winds of time sweep clean the centuries, but they can never bear into oblivion his words. They still live, and to-morrow speak louder than to-day. They are to-day as the voice of one crying in the wilderness, "Make straight God's paths; make way for health, holiness, universal harmony, and come up hither." The grandeur of the word, the power of Truth, is again casting out evils and healing the sick; and it is whispered, "This is Science."
Step 6. The irresistible Christ, Truth
And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.
My 149:5 We know Principle only through Science. The Principle of Christ is divine Love, resistless Life and Truth. Then the Science of the Principle must be Christlike, or Christian Science. More than regal is the majesty of the meekness of the Christ-principle; and its might is the ever-flowing tides of truth that sweep the universe, create and govern it; and its radiant stores of knowledge are the mysteries of exhaustless being. Seek ye these till you make their treasures yours.

STEPS OF THE TREATMENT
16. Jesus Heals woman’s daughter of insanity Matt 15: 21-28

STEP 1: Receptivity. Hungering for healing.
21 |Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David;
S&H 46:7 The divine Spirit, which identified Jesus thus centuries ago, has spoken through the inspired Word and will speak through it in every age and clime. It is revealed to the receptive heart, and is again seen casting out evil and healing the sick.
S&H 570:14-18 Millions of unprejudiced minds — simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert — are waiting and watching for rest and drink. Give them a cup of cold water in Christ's name, and never fear the consequences.

STEP 2: Patient instinctively knows that the daughter problem is from outside influence
my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
S&H 414:4 The treatment of insanity is especially interesting. However obstinate the case, it yields more readily than do most
diseases to the salutary action of truth, which counteracts error. The arguments to be used in curing insanity are the same as in other
diseases: namely, the impossibility that matter, brain, can control or derange mind, can suffer or cause suffering; also the fact that
truth and love will establish a healthy state, guide and govern mortal mind or the thought of the patient, and destroy all error, whether
it is called dementia, hatred, or any other discord.

STEP 3: Silent prayer to prepare thought
23 But he answered her not a word.
S&H 15:7 The Father in secret is unseen to the physical senses, but He knows all things and rewards according to motives, not according to speech. To enter into the heart of prayer, the door of the erring senses must be closed. Lips must be mute and materialism silent, that man may have audience with Spirit, the divine Principle, Love, which destroys all error.

STEP 4: Need to overcome fear and “not wanting to get involved “
24 And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
S&H 571:15 At all times and under all circumstances, overcome evil with good. Know thyself, and God will supply the wisdom and the occasion for a victory over evil. Clad in the panoply of Love, human hatred cannot reach you. The cement of a higher humanity will unite all interests in the one divinity.

STEP 5: Never lose sight of your Father’s direction
25 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
S&H 450:29-4 Knowing the claim of animal magnetism, that all evil combines in the belief of life, substance, and intelligence in matter, electricity, animal nature, and organic life, who will deny that these are the errors which Truth must and will annihilate? Christian Scientists must live under the constant pressure of the apostolic command to come out from the material world and be separate.
S&H 97:21 The broadest facts array the most falsities against themselves, for they bring error from under cover. It requires courage to utter truth; for the higher Truth lifts her voice, the louder will error scream, until its inarticulate sound is forever silenced in oblivion.

STEP 6: Turn to the Christ with consecration
26 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
S&H 262:1-5 Consecration to good does not lessen man's dependence on God, but heightens it. Neither does consecration diminish man's obligations to God, but shows the paramount necessity of meeting them.
S&H 140:16-18 We worship spiritually, only as we cease to worship materially. Spiritual devoutness is the soul of Christianity.

STEP 7: Tests woman’s worthiness and true desire
27 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
S&H 4:5 To keep the commandments of our Master and follow his example, is our proper debt to him and the only worthy evidence of our gratitude for all that he has done. Outward worship is not of itself sufficient to express loyal and heartfelt gratitude, since he has said: "If ye love me, keep my commandments."

STEP 8: Ultimate humility and disire (striving) for just a glimpse of Truth that both she and her child have equal access to.
28 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
S&H 234:4 Whatever inspires with wisdom, Truth, or Love — be it song, sermon, or Science — blesses the human family with crumbs of comfort from Christ's table, feeding the hungry and giving living waters to the thirsty.
S&H 12 In divine Science, where prayers are mental, all may avail themselves of God as "a very present help in trouble." Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals. It is the open fount which cries, "Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters."

STEP 9: See the patient’s true nature and seeing the faith requisite for healing
29 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt.
S&H 130:20 Laboring long to shake the adult's faith in matter and to inculcate a grain of faith in God, — an inkling of the ability of Spirit to make the body harmonious, — the author has often remembered our Master's love for little children, and understood how truly such as they belong to the heavenly kingdom.

STEP 10: Liberation. Daughter healed by seeing influence of parents thought.
And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
S&H 371:30 Truth is an alterative in the entire system, and can make it "every whit whole."
S&H 411:13-22 It is recorded that once Jesus asked the name of a disease, — a disease which moderns would call dementia. The
demon, or evil, replied that his name was Legion. Thereupon Jesus cast out the evil, and the insane man was changed and
straightway became whole. The Scripture seems to import that Jesus caused the evil to be self-seen and so destroyed.
The procuring cause and foundation of all sickness is fear, ignorance, or sin. Disease is always induced by a false sense mentally
entertained, not destroyed.

STEPS OF THE TREATMENT:
17. RAISING THE DEAD (SON OF THE WIDOW AT NAIN)
Luke 7:11-16
And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people. Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.

STEP 1: COMPASSION:
he had compassion on her
S&H 115: MORAL. Humanity, honesty, affection, com- Transitional
passion, hope, faith, meekness, temperance. Qualities

STEP 2: GRIEF BASELESS:
and said unto her, Weep not
S&H 377: If grief causes suffering, convince the sufferer that affliction is often the source of joy, and that he should rejoice always in ever-present Love.

STEP 3: CHRIST COMES TO THE FLESH TO DESTROY INCARNATE ERROR:
And he came and touched the bier:
S&H 450: The unbiased Christian thought is soonest touched by Truth, and convinced of it. … No intellectual proficiency is requisite in the learner, but sound morals are most desirable.
Mis 29: The purpose of his life-work touches universal humanity.

STEP 4. THUS FAR AND NO FARTHER:
and they that bare him stood still
Ret 93: The best spiritual type of Christly method for uplifting human thought and imparting divine Truth, is stationary power, stillness,
and strength; and when this spiritual ideal is made our own, it becomes the model for human action.

STEP 5. EXPECTATION:
Young man, I say unto thee, Arise
S&H 574: The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained
unawares. Then thought gently whispers: "Come hither! Arise from your false consciousness into the true sense of Love,…
’02: 95 Jesus commanded, "Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead;" in other words, Let the world, popularity, pride, and ease
concern you less, and love thou. When the full significance of this saying is understood, we shall have better practitioners, and Truth will
arise in human thought with healing in its wings, regenerating mankind and fulfilling the apostle's saying: "For the law of the
Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."

STEP 6. OBEDIENCE TO THE CHRIST, UPLIFED THOUGHT:
And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak
S&H 485: Why malign Christian Science for instructing mortals how to make sin, disease, and death appear more and more unreal?
Emerge gently from matter into Spirit. Think not to thwart the spiritual ultimate of all things, but come naturally into Spirit through better health and morals and as the result of spiritual growth. Not death, but the understanding of Life, makes man immortal.
S&H 180: Can matter speak for itself, or does it hold the issues of life?" Matter, which can neither suffer nor enjoy, has no partnership
with pain and pleasure, but mortal belief has such a partnership.

STEP 7. LIBERATION:
And he delivered him to his mother
Mis 298: Trials purify mortals and deliver them from themselves, — all the claims of sensuality. Abide by the morale of absolute
Christian Science, — self-abnegation and purity; then Truth delivers you from the seeming power of error, and faith vested in
righteousness triumphs.

STEPS OF THE HEALING
18. HEALING OF THE WOMAN WITH AN ISSUE OF BLOOD Luke 8:40,43-48
STEP 1: EXPECTATION
40 And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him.
Mis 158:19 All God's servants are minute men and women. As of old, I stand with sandals on and staff in hand, waiting for the watchword and the revelation of what, how, whither. Let us be faithful and obedient, and God will do the rest.
S&H 254:10 When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs our path. Imperfect mortals grasp the ultimate of spiritual perfection slowly; but to begin aright and to continue the strife of demonstrating the great problem of being, is doing much.
S&H 454:22 Wait patiently for divine Love to move upon the waters of mortal mind, and form the perfect concept. Patience must "have her perfect work."

STEP 2: SAYING GOODBYE TO MATERIAL METHODS
43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
S&H 216:30-1: Give up your material belief of mind in matter, and have but one Mind, even God; for this Mind forms its own likeness.
S&H 249:1: Let us accept Science, relinquish all theories based on sense-testimony, give up imperfect models and illusive ideals; and so let us have one God, one Mind, and that one perfect, producing His own models of excellence.
S&H x:15-19: By thousands of well-authenticated cases of healing, she and her students have proved the worth of her teachings. These cases for the most part have been abandoned as hopeless by regular medical attendants.

STEP 3: FOLLOWING THE CHRIST
44 Came behind him,
S&H 227:21-24: Christian Science raises the standard of liberty and cries: "Follow me! Escape from the bondage of sickness, sin, and death!" Jesus marked out the way.

STEP 4: REACH FOR THE CHRIST, TRUTH
and touched the border of his garment:
S&H 170:22 Spiritual causation is the one question to be considered, for more than all others spiritual causation relates to human progress. The age seems ready to approach this subject, to ponder somewhat the supremacy of Spirit, and at least to touch the hem of Truth's garment.

STEP 5: THE TRUTH REACHES THE PATIENT IMMEDIATELY-IT WAS ALWAYS THERE
and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
S&H 115:17: IDEA: An image in Mind; the immediate object of understanding. — Webster.
Mis 44:8: The remedial power of Christian Science is positive, and its application direct. It cannot fail to heal in every case of disease, when conducted by one who understands this Science sufficiently to demonstrate its highest possibilities.
My 105:19-26: About the year 1869, I was wired to attend the patient of a distinguished M.D., the late Dr. Davis of Manchester, N. H. The patient was pronounced dying of pneumonia, and was breathing at intervals in agony. Her physician, who stood by her bedside, declared that she could not live. On seeing her immediately restored by me without material aid, he asked earnestly if I had a work describing my system of healing.

STEP 6: IDENTIFY YOURSELF CORRECTLY AS A SPIRITUAL BEING
45 And Jesus said, Who touched me?
Un 57:10: When Jesus turned and said, "Who hath touched me?" he must have felt the influence of the woman's thought; for it is written that he felt that "virtue had gone out of him." His pure consciousness was discriminating, and rendered this infallible verdict; but he neither held her error by affinity nor by infirmity, for it was detected and dismissed.

STEP 7: DO NOT LISTEN TO THE WORLD THOUGHT
When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
S&H 86:4-8: Jesus knew, as others did not, that it was not matter, but mortal mind, whose touch called for aid. Repeating his inquiry, he was answered by the faith of a sick woman. His quick apprehension of this mental call illustrated his spirituality.

STEP 8: IDENTIFY THE PRESENCE OF GOODNESS AND VIRTUE
46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
S&H 72:21-23: God, good, being ever present, it follows in divine logic that evil, the suppositional opposite of good, is never present.
Mis 268:14-18: The Christian Scientist keeps straight to the course. His whole inquiry and demonstration lie in the line of Truth; hence he suffers no shipwreck in a starless night on the shoals of vainglory. His medicine is Mind — the omnipotent and ever-present good.

STEP 9: HUMILITY, OBEDIENCE AND HONESTY REQUISITE
47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him,
Mis 17:13-17: …bow before the Christ, the spiritual idea that our great Master gave of the power of God to heal and to save. Then it is that you behold for the first time the divine Principle that redeems man from under the curse of materialism, — sin, disease, and death.

STEP 10: TESTIFY TO THE HEALING
she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately
Man 47:13-17: Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, "who healeth all thy diseases" (Psalm 103:3).

STEP 11: THE COMFORTER RECOGNIZED
48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort:
S&H 78:28: Spirit blesses man, but man cannot "tell whence it cometh." By it the sick are healed, the sorrowing are comforted, and the sinning are reformed. These are the effects of one universal God, the invisible good dwelling in eternal Science.

STEP 12: REMEMBER THE LESSON IN EACH HEALING
thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
Pul 53:22-25: When Jesus of Nazareth proclaimed its potency from the hilltops of Palestine, he gave to mankind the key to health and heaven, and earned the title of Saviour of the World."
Pul 53:12-14 Jesus said,"Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole." That was Christian Science.
STEPS OF THE TREATMENT
19. Healing of the man possessed with the devil (dumb and blind) (Matt 12:22-28)
22 ¶ Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.
28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

Step 1. Handle animal magnetism
This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils
S&H 563:30-7 It is the animal instinct in mortals, which would impel them to devour each other and cast out devils through
Beelzebub. As of old, evil still charges the spiritual idea with error's own nature and methods. This malicious animal
instinct, of which the dragon is the type, incites mortals to kill morally and physically even their fellow-mortals, and worse
still, to charge the innocent with the crime.
S&H 341:11-1 In Christian Science mere opinion is valueless. Proof is essential to a due estimate of this subject. Sneers at the application of the word Science to Christianity cannot prevent that from being scientific which is based on divine Principle, demonstrated according to a divine given rule, and subjected to proof. The facts are so absolute and numerous in support of Christian Science, that misrepresentation and denunciation cannot overthrow it.

Step 2. Spiritual perception requisite
And Jesus knew their thoughts
S&H 83:25-32 There is mortal mind-reading and immortal Mind-reading. The latter is a revelation of divine purpose through spiritual understanding, by which man gains the divine Principle and explanation of all things. Mortal mind-reading and immortal Mind-reading are distinctly opposite standpoints, from which cause and effect are interpreted. The act of reading mortal mind investigates and touches only human beliefs.
S&H 354:26-2 Sin should become unreal to every one. It is in itself inconsistent, a divided kingdom. Its supposed realism has no divine authority, and I rejoice in the apprehension of this grand verity. The opponents of divine Science must be charitable, if they would be Christian. If the letter of Christian Science appears inconsistent, they should gain the spiritual meaning of Christian Science, and then the ambiguity will vanish.

Step 3. Steadfast in the truth-no wavering
Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
S&H 251:29 Ignorance must be seen and corrected before we can attain harmony. Inharmonious beliefs, which rob Mind, calling it matter, and deify their own notions, imprison themselves in what they create. They are at war with Science, and as our Master said, "If a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand."
S&H 389:22 Materialists contradict their own statements. Their belief in material laws and in penalties for their infraction is the ancient error that there is fraternity between pain and pleasure, good and evil, God and Satan. This belief totters to its falling before the battle-axe of Science.

Step 4. No basis for error
And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
Mis 68:12 It is unchristian to believe that pain and sickness are anything but illusions. My proof of this is, that the penalty for believing in their reality is the very pain and disease. Jesus cast out a devil, and the dumb spake; hence it is right to know that the works of Satan are the illusion and error which Truth casts out.

Step 5. Actions teach more than words
And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.
S&H 421:30 The perversion of Mind-science is like asserting that the products of eight multiplied by five, and of seven by ten, are both forty, and that their combined sum is fifty, and then calling the process mathematics. Wiser than his persecutors, Jesus said: "If I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out?"

Step 6. God’s presence proved
But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
S&H 143:26 Mind is the grand creator, and there can be no power except that which is derived from Mind. If Mind was first chronologically, is first potentially, and must be first eternally, then give to Mind the glory, honor, dominion, and power everlastingly due its holy name. Inferior and unspiritual methods of healing may try to make Mind and drugs coalesce, but the two will not mingle scientifically. Why should we wish to make them do so, since no good can come of it?

STEPS OF THE HEALING

20. Healing (Absent Treatment) of Centurion’s Servant of Palsy: Matt 8: 5-13; Luke 7: 1-10

Step 1: Seek the Christ
And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
S&H 238:19 Truth often remains unsought, until we seek this remedy for human woe because we suffer severely from error.
'00 7:21-28 …when we behold the Christ walking the wave of earth's troubled sea, like Peter we believe in the second coming, and would walk more closely with Christ; but find ourselves so far from the embodiment of Truth that ofttimes this attempt measurably fails, and we cry, "Save, or I perish!" Then the tender, loving Christ is found near, affords help, and we are saved from our fears.

Step 2: Get the name of the disease
And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
S&H 412:18 To heal by argument, find the type of the ailment, get its name, and array your mental plea against the physical. Argue at first mentally, not audibly, that the patient has no disease, and conform the argument so as to destroy the evidence of disease. Mentally insist that harmony is the fact, and that sickness is a temporal dream. Realize the presence of health and the fact of harmonious being, until the body corresponds with the normal conditions of health and harmony.
S&H 398:1 Sometimes Jesus called a disease by name, as when he said to the epileptic boy, "Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him." It is added that "the spirit [error] cried, and rent him sore and came out of him, and he was as one dead," — clear evidence that the malady was not material. These instances show the concessions which Jesus was willing to make to the popular ignorance of spiritual Life-laws. Often he gave no name to the distemper he cured. To the synagogue ruler's daughter, whom they called dead but of whom he said, "she is not dead, but sleepeth," he simply said, "Damsel, I say unto thee, arise!" To the sufferer with the withered hand he said, "Stretch forth thine hand," and it "was restored whole, like as the other."
S&H 412:10-13 You may call the disease by name when you mentally deny it; but by naming it audibly, you are liable under some circumstances to impress it upon the thought.

Step 3: Manifesting the Christ which comes to the flesh
And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
S&H 375:21 Palsy is a belief that matter governs mortals, and can paralyze the body, making certain portions of it motionless. Destroy the belief, show mortal mind that muscles have no power to be lost, for Mind is supreme, and you cure the palsy.
S&H 486:27 If the five corporeal senses were the medium through which to understand God, then palsy, blindness, and deafness would place man in a terrible situation, where he would be like those "having no hope, and without God in the world;" but as a matter of fact, these calamities often drive mortals to seek and to find a higher sense of happiness and existence.

Step 4: Humility
The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof:
S&H 514:6 Mind, joyous in strength, dwells in the realm of Mind. Mind's infinite ideas run and disport themselves. In humility they climb the heights of holiness.
S&H 28:22 Remember, thou Christian martyr, it is enough if thou art found worthy to unloose the sandals of thy Master's feet! To suppose that persecution for righteousness' sake belongs to the past, and that Christianity to-day is at peace with the world because it is honored by sects and societies, is to mistake the very nature of religion. Error repeats itself. The trials encountered by prophet, disciple, and apostle, "of whom the world was not worthy," await, in some form, every pioneer of truth.

Step 5: Faith in the Word; Expectation
but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
S&H 46:7 The divine Spirit, which identified Jesus thus centuries ago, has spoken through the inspired Word and will speak through it in every age and clime. It is revealed to the receptive heart, and is again seen casting out evil and healing the sick.
S&H 132:28-7 Did the doctrines of John the Baptist confer healing power upon him, or endow him with the truest conception of the Christ? This righteous preacher once pointed his disciples to Jesus as "the Lamb of God;" yet afterwards he seriously questioned the signs of the Messianic appearing, and sent the inquiry to Jesus, "Art thou he that should come?"

Step 6: Recognition of Divine Authority
For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
S&H 134:28 There is divine authority for believing in the superiority of spiritual power over material resistance.
S&H 188:32 The human or material senses yield to the authority of this science, and they are willing to leave with astronomy the explanation of the sun's influence over the earth. If the eyes see no sun for a week, we still believe that there is solar light and heat. Science (in this instance named natural) raises the human thought above the cruder theories of the human mind, and casts out a fear.
S&H 390:23 You have no law of His to support the necessity either of sin or sickness, but you have divine authority for denying that necessity and healing the sick.

Step 7: God knows His own and it is marvellous
When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
S&H 138 Was John's faith greater than that of the Samaritan woman, who said, "Is not this the Christ?" There was also a certain centurion of whose faith Jesus himself declared, "I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel."
368:14 When we come to have more faith in the truth of being than we have in error, more faith in Spirit than in matter, more faith in living than in dying, more faith in God than in man, then no material suppositions can prevent us from healing the sick and destroying error.

Step 8: God’s Promise will be fulfilled; never doubt
And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee.
S&H 400:32 It is recorded that in certain localities he did not many mighty works "because of their unbelief" in Truth. Any human error is its own enemy, and works against itself; it does nothing in the right direction and much in the wrong. If so-called mind is cherishing evil passions and malicious purposes, it is not a healer, but it engenders disease and death.
S&H 55:21 The promises will be fulfilled. The time for the reappearing of the divine healing is throughout all time; and whosoever layeth his earthly all on the altar of divine Science, drinketh of Christ's cup now, and is endued with the spirit and power of Christian healing.

Step 9: Liberation
And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
Hymn 179:1
Love one another, — word of revelation;
Love frees from error's thrall, — Love is liberation.
Love's way the Master trod;
He that loves shall walk with God.
Love is the royal way.
S&H 233:16-22 Already the shadow of His right hand rests upon the hour. Ye who can discern the face of the sky, — the sign material, — how much more should ye discern the sign mental, and compass the destruction of sin and sickness by overcoming the thoughts which produce them, and by understanding the spiritual idea which corrects and destroys them.

STEPS OF THE HEALING
21. Lazarus Raised from the grave after four days-Luke 11

STEP 1: Reverse the claim immediately and establish a truthful basis
1 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
2 (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was
sick. )
3 Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
S&H 390:12-18 When the first symptoms of disease appear, dispute the testimony of the material senses with divine Science. Let your higher sense of justice destroy the false process of mortal opinions which you name law, and then you will not be confined to a sick-room nor laid upon a bed of suffering in payment of the last farthing, the last penalty demanded by error.
STEP 2: Agree to disagree, speak to the patient where he is.
11 These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
S&H 75:12-16 Jesus said of Lazarus: "Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep." Jesus restored Lazarus by the understanding that Lazarus had never died, not by an admission that his body had died and then lived again.
S&H 390:18
"Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him." Suffer no claim of sin or of sickness to grow upon the thought. Dismiss it with an abiding conviction that it is illegitimate, because you know that God is no more the author of sickness than He is of sin. You have no law of His to support the necessity either of sin or sickness, but you have divine authority for denying that necessity and healing the sick.
STEP 3: Understand that the Christ is ever-present and comes to the flesh to destroy the error
14 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
S&H 473:10-15 Christ is the ideal Truth, that comes to heal sickness and sin through Christian Science, and attributes all power to God. Jesus is the name of the man who, more than all other men, has presented Christ, the true idea of God, healing the sick and the sinning and destroying the power of death.
STEP 4: Be not impressed by so called material evidence
15 Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.
S&H 476:6-10 Error, urged to its final limits, is self-destroyed. Error will cease to claim that soul is in body, that life and intelligence are in matter, and that this matter is man. God is the Principle of man, and man is the idea of God.
STEP 5: Go immediately to the Christ Truth
20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him:
S&H 142:4 Anciently the followers of Christ, or Truth, measured Christianity by its power over sickness, sin, and death; but modern religions generally omit all but one of these powers, — the power over sin. We must seek the undivided garment, the whole Christ, as our first proof of Christianity, for Christ, Truth, alone can furnish us with absolute evidence.
STEP 6: Prophecy truthfully
23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
S&H 34:18-26 Through all the disciples experienced, they became more spiritual and understood better what the Master had taught. His resurrection was also their resurrection. It helped them to raise themselves and others from spiritual dulness and blind belief in God into the perception of infinite possibilities. They needed this quickening, for soon their dear Master would rise again in the spiritual realm of reality, and ascend far above their apprehension.
STEP 7: Conform your argument to the absolute
24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.
S&H 170:8 Christian ideas certainly present what human theories exclude — the Principle of man's harmony. The text, "Whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die," not only contradicts human systems, but points to the self-sustaining and eternal Truth.
No 13:4-9 The demonstration of moral and physical growth, and a scientific deduction from the Principle of all harmony, declare both the Principle and idea to be divine. If this be true, then death must be swallowed up in Life, and the prophecy of Jesus fulfilled, "Whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die."
STEP 8: Don’t let doubt or a defeatist attitude enter thought
32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
S&H 75:16 Had Jesus believed that Lazarus had lived or died in his body, the Master would have stood on the same plane of belief as those who buried the body, and he could not have resuscitated it.

STEP 9: The Truth is unimpressed by the lie and will assert itself
33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,
34 And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
S&H 51:28 His spirituality separated him from sensuousness, and caused the selfish materialist to hate him; but it was this spirituality which enabled Jesus to heal the sick, cast out evil, and raise the dead.

STEP 10: Lift the false sense of weight and finality
38 Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
39 Jesus said, Take ye away the stone.
S&H 260:31 If we look to the body for pleasure, we find pain; for Life, we find death; for Truth, we find error; for Spirit, we find its opposite, matter. Now reverse this action. Look away from the body into Truth and Love, the Principle of all happiness, harmony, and immortality. Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts.
S&H 347:6-7 Nothing really has Life but God, who is infinite Life; hence all is Life, and death has no dominion.
STEP 11: Start from a standpoint of GRATITUDE.
40 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
S&H 3:22 Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more. Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech.
iii:7 Oh! Thou hast heard my prayer; And I am blest! This is Thy high behest: — Thou here, and everywhere. — Mary Baker G. Eddy
STEP 12: Affirm the Truth
41 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
S&H 134:26 "I knew that Thou hearest me always;" and he raised Lazarus from the dead, stilled the tempest, healed the sick, walked on the water. There is divine authority for believing in the superiority of spiritual power over material resistance.
STEP 13: Demand and expect perfection now!
42 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
Ret 88:10 The spiritual significance of this command, "Raise the dead," most concerns mankind. It implies such an elevation of the understanding as will enable thought to apprehend the living beauty of Love, its practicality, its divine energies, its health-giving and life-bestowing qualities, — yea, its power to demonstrate immortality. This end Jesus achieved, both by example and precept.
STEP 14: Liberation of the infinite idea
43 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin.
Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
My 218:9 The power and prerogative of Truth are to destroy all disease and to raise the dead — even the self-same Lazarus. The spiritual body, the incorporeal idea, came with the ascension.
S&H 493:28 If Jesus awakened Lazarus from the dream, illusion, of death, this proved that the Christ could improve on a false sense. Who dares to doubt this consummate test of the power and willingness of divine Mind to hold man forever intact in his perfect state, and to govern man's entire action? Jesus said: "Destroy this temple [body], and in three days I [Mind] will raise it up;" and he did this for tired humanity's reassurance.

STEPS OF THE HEALING
22. JESUS HEALS SERVANT’S SEVERED EAR Matt 26:50-54

1. SPIRITUAL INTUITION NEEDED
49 And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.
S&H 85:9-12 You will reach the perfect Science of healing when you are able to read the human mind after this manner and discern the error you would destroy.
S&H 298:13-15 Spiritual sense, contradicting the material senses, involves intuition, hope, faith, understanding, fruition, reality.
Mis 152:22 Thus founded upon the rock of Christ, when storm and tempest beat against this sure foundation, you, safely sheltered in the strong tower of hope, faith, and Love, are God's nestlings; and He will hide you in His feathers till the storm has passed. Into His haven of Soul there enters no element of earth to cast out angels, to silence the right intuition which guides you safely home.

2. CONQUER HUMAN WILL
50 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.
S&H 9:17 Dost thou "love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind"? This command includes much, even the surrender of all merely material sensation, affection, and worship. This is the El Dorado of Christianity. It involves the Science of Life, and recognizes only the divine control of Spirit, in which Soul is our master, and material sense and human will have no place.
S&H 144:18 Human will-power may infringe the rights of man. It produces evil continually, and is not a factor in the realism of being. Truth, and not corporeal will, is the divine power which says to disease, "Peace, be still."

3. HUMAN WAYS AND MEANS USELESS
51 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
No 21:12 Human philosophy would dethrone perfection, and substitute matter and evil for divine means and ends.
S&H 542:18 "They that take the sword shall perish with the sword." Let Truth uncover and destroy error in God's own way, and let human justice pattern the divine. Sin will receive its full penalty, both for what it is and for what it does. Justice marks the sinner, and teaches mortals not to remove the waymarks of God. To envy's own hell, justice consigns the lie which, to advance itself, breaks God's commandments.

4. TURN TO THE POWER OF GOD
52 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
S&H 581:4 ANGELS. God's thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect; the inspiration of goodness, purity, and immortality, counteracting all evil, sensuality, and mortality.
Mis 52:7 Whosoever understands the power of Spirit, has no doubt of God's power, — even the might of Truth, — to heal, through divine Science, beyond all human means and methods.
S&H 299:7 My angels are exalted thoughts, appearing at the door of some sepulchre, in which human belief has buried its fondest earthly hopes. With white fingers they point upward to a new and glorified trust, to higher ideals of life and its joys. Angels are God's representatives. These upward-soaring beings never lead towards self, sin, or materiality, but guide to the divine Principle of all good, whither every real individuality, image, or likeness of God, gathers. By giving earnest heed to these spiritual guides they tarry with us, and we entertain "angels unawares."

5. TRUST IN GOD’S WILL –THY WILL BE DONE
54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
My 5:28 Forgetting the Golden Rule and indulging sin, men cannot serve God; they cannot demonstrate the
omnipotence of divine Mind that heals the sick and the sinner. Human will may mesmerize and mislead man; divine
wisdom, never. Indulging deceit is like the defendant arguing for the plaintiff in favor of a decision which the defendant
knows will be turned against himself.
Mis 157:22 "Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass. And He shall bring forth thy
righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday." This I know, for God is for us.

6. FORGIVENESS IN THE NAME OF THE HIGHER MISSION
Luke 22:51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.
Man 40:7 In Science, divine Love alone governs man; and a Christian Scientist reflects the sweet amenities of Love, in
rebuking sin, in true brotherliness, charitableness, and forgiveness. The members of this Church should daily watch and
pray to be delivered from all evil, from prophesying, judging, condemning, counseling, influencing or being influenced
erroneously.

STEPS OF THE HEALING
23. HEALING OF TWO BLIND MEN BY THE WAYSIDE Matt 20:30-34
STEP 1: MEETING THE NEED WHERE IT EXISTS
30 And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side,
Mis 99:32 (only) Jesus taught by the wayside, in humble homes.
Mis 150:21 If He be with us, the wayside is a sanctuary, and the desert a resting-place peopled with living witnesses of the fact that
"God is Love."
No 3:21 How good and pleasant a thing it is to seek not so much thine own as another's good, to sow by the wayside for the way-
weary, and trust Love's recompense of love.

STEP 2: HELP THOSE ON THE WAYSIDE TO ENTER THE PATH OF TRUTH
when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out,
S&H 451:11-14 They must not only seek, but strive, to enter the narrow path of Life, for "wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that
leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat."
My 290:16 "Out of the depths have I cried unto Thee." Divine Love is never so near as when all earthly joys seem most afar.

STEP 3: SEE THE IMPARTIALITY OF LOVE
saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.
S&H 6:17 "God is Love." More than this we cannot ask, higher we cannot look, farther we cannot go. To suppose
that God forgives or punishes sin according as His mercy is sought or unsought, is to misunderstand Love and to make prayer the
safety-valve for wrong-doing.
S&H 18:6-9 He did life's work aright not only in justice to himself, but in mercy to mortals, — to show them how to do theirs, but not to do
it for them nor to relieve them of a single responsibility.

STEP 4: HUMAN OPINION VALUELESS
31 And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace:
Mis 4:29 It is not alone the mission of Christian Science to heal the sick, but to destroy sin in mortal thought. This work well done will
elevate and purify the race. It cannot fail to do this if we devote our best energies to the work.
Mis 24:18-20 I learned that mortal thought evolves a subjective state which it names matter, thereby shutting out the true sense of
Spirit.
Mis 70:8 When the mortal thought, or belief, was removed, the man was well.
S&H 192:4-7 We are Christian Scientists, only as we quit our reliance upon that which is false and grasp the true. We are not Christian
Scientists until we leave all for Christ. Human opinions are not spiritual.

STEP 5: PERSIST IN PERSUIT OF TRUTH IN THE FACE OF MORTAL MIND
but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.
Mis 230:2-4 Success in life depends upon persistent effort, upon the improvement of moments more than upon any other one thing.
Mis 339:10-11 In the battle of life, good is made more industrious and persistent because of the supposed activity of evil.
Mis 340:5 There is no excellence without labor; and the time to work, is now. Only by persistent, unremitting, straightforward toil; by
turning neither to the right nor to the left, seeking no other pursuit or pleasure than that which cometh from God, can you win and wear
the crown of the faithful.
S&H 400:18 By lifting thought above error, or disease, and contending persistently for truth, you destroy error.

STEP 6: CALM STILLNESS IN THE FACE OF MATERIAL CLAIM
32 And Jesus stood still, and called them,
My 193:25-28 In this lofty temple, dedicated to God and humanity, may the prophecy of Isaiah be fulfilled: "Fear not: . . . I have called
thee by thy name; thou art mine."
Hymn 317:1 Still, still with Thee when purple morning breaketh, When the bird waketh, and the shadows flee, Fairer than morning,
lovelier than the daylight, Dawns the sweet consciousness, I am with Thee.
Ret 88:28-1 Mind demonstrates omnipresence and omnipotence, but Mind revolves on a spiritual axis, and its power is displayed and
its presence felt in eternal stillness and immovable Love.
Ret 93:10 The ideal of God is no longer impersonated as a waif or wanderer; and Truth is not fragmentary, disconnected,
unsystematic, but concentrated and immovably fixed in Principle. The best spiritual type of Christly method for uplifting human thought
and imparting divine Truth, is stationary power, stillness, and strength; and when this spiritual ideal is made our own, it becomes the
model for human action.

STEP 7: DISCERN THE REAL NEED
and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?
S&H 233:17-22 Ye who can discern the face of the sky, — the sign material, — how much more should ye discern the sign mental, and
compass the destruction of sin and sickness by overcoming the thoughts which produce them, and by understanding the spiritual idea
which corrects and destroys them.
S&H 95:6-10 We approach God, or Life, in proportion to our spirituality, our fidelity to Truth and Love; and in that ratio we know all
human need and are able to discern the thought of the sick and the sinning for the purpose of healing them.

STEP 8: RAISE THE PATIENT’S THOUGHT TO UNDERSTAND TRUTH
33 They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
S&H 570:30 Many are willing to open the eyes of the people to the power of good resident in divine Mind, but they are not so willing to
point out the evil in human thought, and expose evil's hidden mental ways of accomplishing iniquity.
Mis 212:24 If, consciously or unconsciously, one is at work in a wrong direction, who will step forward and open his eyes to see this
error? He who is a Christian Scientist, who has cast the beam out of his own eye, speaks plainly to the offender and tries to show his
errors to him before letting another know it.
Rud 5:17 Matter without Mind is a moral impossibility. Mind in matter is pantheism. Soul is the only real consciousness which cognizes
being. The body does not see, hear, smell, or taste. Human belief says that it does; but destroy this belief of seeing with the eye, and we
could not see materially; and so it is with each of the physical senses.

STEP 9: COMPASSION REQUISITE
34 So Jesus had compassion on them,
'02 18:12-16 Jesus was compassionate, true, faithful to rebuke, ready to forgive. He said, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of
the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." "Love one another, as I have loved you."
S&H 365:7 The benign thought of Jesus, finding utterance in such words as "Take no thought for your life," would heal the sick, and so
enable them to rise above the supposed necessity for physical thought-taking and doctoring; but if the unselfish affections be lacking,
and common sense and common humanity are disregarded, what mental quality remains, with which to evoke healing from the
outstretched arm of righteousness?

STEP 10: FEEL THE TOUCH OF TRUTH
and touched their eyes:
S&H 86:4-6 Jesus knew, as others did not, that it was not matter, but mortal mind, whose touch called for aid.
S&H 300:13-17 The temporal and unreal never touch the eternal and real. The mutable and imperfect never touch the immutable and
perfect. The inharmonious and self-destructive never touch the harmonious and self-existent.
S&H 450:15-19 Some people yield slowly to the touch of Truth. Few yield without a struggle, and many are reluctant to acknowledge
that they have yielded; but unless this admission is made, evil will boast itself above good.
Mis 175:12-13 The measure of Life shall increase by every spiritual touch, even as the leaven expands the loaf.

STEP 11: LIBERATING THOUGHT: SIGHT NOT WITHIN THE EYES
and immediately their eyes received sight,
S&H 115:17 IDEA: An image in Mind; the immediate object of understanding. — Webster.
S&H 214:26 How transient a sense is mortal sight, when a wound on the retina may end the power of light and lens! But the real sight
or sense is not lost. Neither age nor accident can interfere with the senses of Soul, and there are no other real senses. It is evident that
the body as matter has no sensation of its own, and there is no oblivion for Soul and its faculties. Spirit's senses are without pain, and
they are forever at peace. Nothing can hide from them the harmony of all things and the might and permanence of Truth.

STEP 12: CHANGE DIRECTION OF THOUGHT AND FOLLOW TRUTH EXCLUSIVELY
and they followed him.
S&H 355:9 As for sin and disease, Christian Science says, in the language of the Master, "Follow me; and let the dead bury their
dead." Let discord of every name and nature be heard no more, and let the harmonious and true sense of Life and being take
possession of human consciousness.
Mis 150:29 Again, this infinite Principle, with its universal manifestation, is all that really is or can be; hence God is our Shepherd. He
guards, guides, feeds, and folds the sheep of His pasture; and their ears are attuned to His call. In the words of the loving disciple, "My
sheep hear my voice, . . . and they follow me; . . . neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."

STEPS OF THE HEALING
24. HEALING THE MAN WITH UNCLEAN SPIRIT FROM THE GADARENES (Mark 5:1-15; Luke 8:22-35)
STEP 1: Deal with the antipode of Truth and expose false belief for what it is—nothing.
1 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

S&H 96:12 This material world is even now becoming the arena for conflicting forces. On one side there will be discord and dismay; on the other side there will be Science and peace. The breaking up of material beliefs may seem to be famine and pestilence, want and woe, sin, sickness, and death, which assume new phases until their nothingness appears. These disturbances will continue until the end of error, when all discord will be swallowed up in spiritual Truth.

STEP 2: Give the claim no reality but immediately declare the Truth
2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

S&H 234:26-27 You must control evil thoughts in the first instance, or they will control you in the second.
S&H 390:12-23 When the first symptoms of disease appear, dispute the testimony of the material senses with divine Science. Let your higher sense of justice destroy the false process of mortal opinions which you name law, and then you will not be confined to a sick-room nor laid upon a bed of suffering in payment of the last farthing, the last penalty demanded by error. "Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him." Suffer no claim of sin or of sickness to grow upon the thought. Dismiss it with an abiding conviction that it is illegitimate, because you know that God is no more the author of sickness than He is of sin.

STEP 3: Deny the power of any material claim to control God’s man
3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.

S&H 399:29 Our Master asked: "How can one enter into a strong man's house and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man?" In other words: How can I heal the body, without beginning with so-called mortal mind, which directly controls the body? When disease is once destroyed in this so-called mind, the fear of disease is gone, and therefore the disease is thoroughly cured. Mortal mind is "the strong man," which must be held in subjection before its influence upon health and morals can be removed. This error conquered, we can despoil "the strong man" of his goods, — namely, of sin and disease.
S&H 414:7 The arguments to be used in curing insanity are the same as in other diseases: namely, the impossibility that matter, brain, can control or derange mind, can suffer or cause suffering; also the fact that truth and love will establish a healthy state, guide and govern mortal mind or the thought of the patient, and destroy all error, whether it is called dementia, hatred, or any other discord.

STEP 4: “Unfold spiritual force” in the presence of the visible claim, however seemingly disturbing
5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
'02 10:2-9 Utilizing the capacities of the human mind uncovers new ideas, unfolds spiritual forces, the divine energies, and their power over matter, molecule, space, time, mortality; and mortals cry out, "Art thou come hither to torment us before the time?" then dispute the facts, call them false or in advance of the time, and reiterate, Let me alone. Hence the footprints of a reformer are stained with blood.

STEP 5: Light shines in darkness
6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

S&H 72:9 So-called spirits are but corporeal communicators. As light destroys darkness and in the place of darkness all is light, so (in absolute Science) Soul, or God, is the only truth-giver to man. Truth destroys mortality, and brings to light immortality. Mortal belief (the material sense of life) and immortal Truth (the spiritual sense) are the tares and the wheat, which are not united by progress, but separated.
S&H 191:8 As a material, theoretical life-basis is found to be a misapprehension of existence, the spiritual and divine Principle of man dawns upon human thought, and leads it to "where the young child was," — even to the birth of a new-old idea, to the spiritual sense of being and of what Life includes. Thus the whole earth will be transformed by Truth on its pinions of light, chasing away the darkness of error.

STEP 6: Disturb the carnal to destroy it
7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

'00 9:8-16 The secret of Christian Science in right thinking and acting is open to mankind, but few, comparatively, see it; or, seeing it, shut their eyes and wait for a more convenient season; or as of old cry out: "Why art thou come hither to torment me before the time?"
Strong desires bias human judgment and misguide action, else they uplift them. But the reformer continues his lightning, thunder, and sunshine till the mental atmosphere is clear.
'01 9:19-26 The evil in human nature foams at the touch of good; it crieth out, "Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, . . . ? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God." The Holy Spirit takes of the things of God and showeth them unto the creature; and these things being spiritual, they disturb the carnal and destroy it; they are revolutionary, reformatory, and — now, as aforetime — they cast out evils and heal the sick.

SEPT 7: Declare aloud the Truth of the situation
8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

No 31:17-26 Jesus cast out evils, mediating between what is and is not, until a perfect consciousness is attained. He healed disease as he healed sin; but he treated them both, not as in or of matter, but as mortal beliefs to be exterminated. Physical and mental healing were one and the same with this master Metaphysician. If the evils called sin, sickness, and death had been forgiven in the generally accepted sense, they would have returned, to be again forgiven; but Jesus said to disease: "Come out of him, and enter no more into him."
S&H 418:28-29 Speak the truth to every form of error.

STEP 8: Name the lie but do not give it power
9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

S&H 411:13 It is recorded that once Jesus asked the name of a disease, — a disease which moderns would call dementia. The demon, or evil, replied that his name was Legion. Thereupon Jesus cast out the evil, and the insane man was changed and straightway became whole. The Scripture seems to import that Jesus caused the evil to be self-seen and so destroyed.
S&H 398:1-9 Sometimes Jesus called a disease by name, as when he said to the epileptic boy, "Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him." It is added that "the spirit [error] cried, and rent him sore and came out of him, and he was as one dead," — clear evidence that the malady was not material. These instances show the concessions which Jesus was willing to make to the popular ignorance of spiritual Life-laws.

STEP 9: Never personalize the error but separate it from what God know about your patient
10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

S&H 390:29-32 Meet the incipient stages of disease with as powerful mental opposition as a legislator would employ to defeat the passage of an inhuman law.

STEP 10: Do not be impressed by errors final attempts to appear real
11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
S&H 97:21 The broadest facts array the most falsities against themselves, for they bring error from under cover. It requires courage to utter truth; for the higher Truth lifts her voice, the louder will error scream, until its inarticulate sound is forever silenced in oblivion.

STEP 11: Send the lie back to its native nothingness
13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
S&H 405:5-11 Christian Science commands man to master the propensities, — to hold hatred in abeyance with kindness, to conquer lust with chastity, revenge with charity, and to overcome deceit with honesty. Choke these errors in their early stages, if you would not cherish an army of conspirators against health, happiness, and success.
S&H 281:18 The mind supposed to exist in matter or beneath a skull bone is a myth, a misconceived sense and false conception as to man and Mind. When we put off the false sense for the true, and see that sin and mortality have neither Principle nor permanency, we shall learn that sin and mortality are without actual origin or rightful existence. They are native nothingness, out of which error would simulate creation through a man formed from dust.

STEP 12: Dull thought awakened by healing
14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.

S&H 150:4-6 To-day the healing power of Truth is widely demonstrated as an immanent, eternal Science, instead of a phenomenal exhibition.
S&H 350:18-30 "This people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them."
"The Word was made flesh." Divine Truth must be known by its effects on the body as well as on the mind, before the Science of being can be demonstrated. Hence its embodiment in the incarnate Jesus, — that life-link forming the connection through which the real reaches the unreal, Soul rebukes sense, and Truth destroys error.

STEP 13: Freedom and liberation witnessed
15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind:

S&H 109:4 Christian Science reveals incontrovertibly that Mind is All-in-all, that the only realities are the divine Mind and idea. This great fact is not, however, seen to be supported by sensible evidence, until its divine Principle is demonstrated by healing the sick and thus proved absolute and divine. This proof once seen, no other conclusion can be reached.
S&H 215:22 With its divine proof, Science reverses the evidence of material sense. Every quality and condition of mortality is lost, swallowed up in immortality. Mortal man is the antipode of immortal man in origin, in existence, and in his relation to God.

STEPS OF THE HEALING
25. MAN HEALED OF THE DROPSY (LUKE 14:2-4)

STEP 1: Come before the Christ
And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.
Mis 17:7-17 …like the patriarch of old, you take off your shoes — lay aside your material appendages, human opinions and doctrines, give up your more material religion with its rites and ceremonies, put off your materia medica and hygiene as worse than useless — to sit at the feet of Jesus. Then, you meekly bow before the Christ, the spiritual idea that our great Master gave of the power of God to heal and to save. Then it is that you behold for the first time the divine Principle that redeems man from under the curse of materialism, — sin, disease, and death.

STEP 2: Confront popular opinion head on
And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?
S&H 341:11-16 In Christian Science mere opinion is valueless. Proof is essential to a due estimate of this subject. Sneers at the application of the word Science to Christianity cannot prevent that from being scientific which is based on divine Principle, demonstrated according to a divine given rule, and subjected to proof.
S&H 342:2 The hour has struck when proof and demonstration, instead of opinion and dogma, are summoned to the support of Christianity, "making wise the simple."

STEP 3: matter cannot speak
And they held their peace.
S&H 15:11 Lips must be mute and materialism silent, that man may have audience with Spirit, the divine Principle, Love, which destroys all error.
S&H 438:13-17 Turning suddenly to Personal Sense, by this time silent, Christian Science continued: — I ask your arrest in the name of Almighty God on three distinct charges of crime, to wit: perjury, treason, and conspiracy against the rights and life of man.

STEP 4: See patient held in God’s hand
And he took him,
Mis 364:10-17 Christian Science refutes everything that is not a postulate of the divine Principle, God. … it is God's right hand grasping the universe, — all time, space, immortality, thought, extension, cause, and effect; constituting and governing all identity, individuality, law, and power.
My 120:9 Bear with me the burden of discovery and share with me the bliss of seeing the risen Christ, God's spiritual idea that takes away all sin, disease, and death, and gives to soul its native freedom.

STEP 5: Witness patient’s perfection
and healed him,
S&H 143:2 …to-day, as yesterday, Christ casts out evils and heals the sick.
S&H 180:27 The only way to this living Truth, which heals the sick, is found in the Science of divine Mind as taught and demonstrated by Christ Jesus.
S&H 230:4-8 … if sickness and sin are illusions, the awakening from this mortal dream, or illusion, will bring us into health, holiness, and immortality. This awakening is the forever coming of Christ, the advanced appearing of Truth, which casts out error and heals the sick.

STEP 6: Liberate the patient with confidence of the effectiveness of treatment
and let him go;
Mis 220:4-23 Let us suppose that there is a sick person whom another would heal mentally. The healer begins by mental argument. He mentally says, "You are well, and you know it;" and he supports this silent mental force by audible explanation, attestation, and precedent. His mental and oral arguments aim to refute the sick man's thoughts, words, and actions, in certain directions, and turn them into channels of Truth. He persists in this course until the patient's mind yields, and the harmonious thought has the full control over this mind on the point at issue. The end is attained, and the patient says and feels, "I am well, and I know it."
This mental practitioner has changed his patient's consciousness from sickness to health. The patient's mental state is now the diametrical opposite of what it was when the mental practitioner undertook to transform it, and he is improved morally and physically.
That this mental method has power and bears fruit, is patent both to the conscientious Christian Scientist and the observer.

STEP 7: Recognize that the problem was never part of the patient
And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on
the sabbath day?
po 4:9 Love is our refuge; only with mine eye Can I behold the snare, the pit, the fall: His habitation high is here, and nigh, His arm encircles me, and mine, and all.

STEP 8: Matter cannot respond to Spirit but must submit to it’s dominion
And they could not answer him again to these things.
S&H 181:4 "Who art thou that repliest to Spirit? Can matter speak for itself, or does it hold the issues of life?" Matter, which can neither suffer nor enjoy, has no partnership with pain and pleasure, but mortal belief has such a partnership.

( Dropsy: An old term for the swelling of soft tissues due to the accumulation of excess water.)

STEPS OF THE HEALING

26. HEALING OF CERTAIN BLIND BEGGER AT SIDE OF ROAD (Luke 18:35-43)

1. LOVE SEEK ANOTHER’S GOOD…(SELFLESS MOTIVES REQUISITE)
35 ¶ And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:
Mis 99:32 Jesus taught by the wayside, in humble homes. He spake of Truth and Love to artless listeners and dull disciples. His immortal words were articulated in a decaying language, and then left to the providence of God. Christian Science was to interpret them; and woman, "last at the cross," was to awaken the dull senses, intoxicated with pleasure or pain, to the infinite meaning of those words.
Mis 100:8-16 Past, present, future, will show the word and might of Truth — healing the sick and reclaiming the sinner — so long as there remains a claim of error for Truth to deny or to destroy. Love's labors are not lost. The five personal senses, that grasp neither the meaning nor the magnitude of self-abnegation, may lose sight thereof; but Science voices unselfish love, unfolds infinite good, leads on irresistible forces, and will finally show the fruits of Love.
No 3:21 How good and pleasant a thing it is to seek not so much thine own as another's good, to sow by the wayside for the way-weary, and trust Love's recompense of love.

2. RECEPTING THOUGHT SEEKS AND WATCHES
36 And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
S&H 46:7 The divine Spirit, which identified Jesus thus centuries ago, has spoken through the inspired Word and will speak through it in every age and clime. It is revealed to the receptive heart, and is again seen casting out evil and healing the sick.
S&H 323:19 When the sick or the sinning awake to realize their need of what they have not, they will be receptive of divine Science, which gravitates towards Soul and away from material sense, removes thought from the body, and elevates even mortal mind to the contemplation of something better than disease or sin. The true idea of God gives the true understanding of Life and Love, robs the grave of victory, takes away all sin and the delusion that there are other minds, and destroys mortality.

3. LISTEN FOR THE ANNOUNCMENTOF THE CHRIST COMING
37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.
Mis 374:11 Above the fogs of sense and storms of passion, Christian Science and its art will rise triumphant; ignorance, envy, and hatred — earth's harmless thunder — pluck not their heaven-born wings. Angels, with overtures, hold charge over both, and announce their Principle and idea.
230:4 if …if sickness and sin are illusions, the awakening from this mortal dream, or illusion, will bring us into health, holiness, and immortality. This awakening is the forever coming of Christ, the advanced appearing of Truth, which casts out error and heals the sick. This is the salvation which comes through God, the divine Principle, Love, as demonstrated by Jesus.

4. HUNGER AND THIRST AFTER RIGHTOUSNESS
38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.
S&H 329:26 The pardon of divine mercy is the destruction of error. If men understood their real spiritual source to be all blessedness, they would struggle for recourse to the spiritual and be at peace; but the deeper the error into which mortal mind is plunged, the more intense the opposition to spirituality, till error yields to Truth.
Mis 151:24 May mercy and truth go before you: may the lamp of your life continually be full of oil, and you be wedded to the spiritual idea, Christ; then will you heal, and teach, and preach, on the ascending scale of everlasting Life and Love.

5. PERSIST IN THE DESIRE FOR HOLINESS IN THE FACE OF CRITICISM
39 And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.
22:13-22 Wait for your reward, and "be not weary in well doing." If your endeavors are beset by fearful odds, and you receive no present reward, go not back to error, nor become a sluggard in the race.
When the smoke of battle clears away, you will discern the good you have done, and receive according to your deserving. Love is not hasty to deliver us from temptation, for Love means that we shall be tried and purified.
S&H 347:12 Critics should consider that the so-called mortal man is not the reality of man. Then they would behold the signs of Christ's coming. Christ, as the spiritual or true idea of God, comes now as of old, preaching the gospel to the poor, healing the sick, and casting out evils. Is it error which is restoring an essential element of Christianity, — namely, apostolic, divine healing? No; it is the Science of Christianity which is restoring it, and is the light shining in darkness, which the darkness comprehends not.

6. LISTEN FOR CHRIST’S CALLING
40 And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him:
S&H 20:24 Material belief is slow to acknowledge what the spiritual fact implies. The truth is the centre of all religion. It commands sure entrance into the realm of Love. St. Paul wrote, "Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us;" that is, let us put aside material self and sense, and seek the divine Principle and Science of all healing.
S&H 403:14-20 You command the situation if you understand that mortal existence is a state of self-deception and not the truth of being. Mortal mind is constantly producing on mortal body the results of false opinions; and it will continue to do so, until mortal error is deprived of its imaginary powers by Truth, which sweeps away the gossamer web of mortal illusion.

7. DECLARE YOUR RIGHTOUS DESIRE
and when he was come near, he asked him, 41. Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee?
S&H 583:10 CHRIST. The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error.
S&H 473:10-12 Christ is the ideal Truth, that comes to heal sickness and sin through Christian Science, and attributes all power to God.
My 150:18-23 in speechless prayer, ask God to enable you to reflect God, to become His own image and likeness, even the calm, clear, radiant reflection of Christ's glory, healing the sick, bringing the sinner to repentance, and raising the spiritually dead in trespasses and sins to life in God.
'01 19:8 Jesus said, "Ask, and ye shall receive;" and if not immediately, continue to ask, and because of your often coming it shall be given unto you; and he illustrated his saying by a parable.

8. SEEK INSIRATION AND THE REVEALED TRUTH TO CONSCIUOSNESS
And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
S&H 209:31-32 Spiritual sense is a conscious, constant capacity to understand God.

9. SEEK SALVATION THROUGH CHRIST ONLY
42 and Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.
S&H 497:13 We acknowledge Jesus' atonement as the evidence of divine, efficacious Love, unfolding man's unity with God through Christ Jesus the Way-shower; and we acknowledge that man is saved through Christ, through Truth, Life, and Love as demonstrated by the Galilean Prophet in healing the sick and overcoming sin and death.
'01 11:7 Through this redemptive Christ, Truth, we are healed and saved, and that not of our selves, it is the gift of God; we are saved from the sins and sufferings of the flesh, and are the redeemed of the Lord.

10. SEEK IMMEDIATE HEALING
43 And immediately he received his sight,
S&H 115:17 IDEA: An image in Mind; the immediate object of understanding. — Webster.
S&H 607:24-1 A dear brother told me about Christian Science, and said that if I would read Science and Health it would help me. He procured for me the loan of the book. The first night I read it, it so interested me I quite forgot all about my eyes until my wife remarked that it was eleven o'clock. I found that I had been reading this book for nearly four hours, and I remarked immediately after, "I believe my eyes are cured," which was really the case.

11. TESTIFY TO GOD’S POWER TO HEAL
and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.
Man 47:13-17 Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, "who healeth all thy diseases" (Psalm 103:3).

27. HEALING OF TWO BLIND MEN THAT FOLLOW HIM, CRYING OUT (Matt 9:27-31)
1. RECEPTIVITY AND EXPECTATION
27 ¶ And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying,
Mis 189:3 When, as little children, we are receptive, become willing to accept the divine Principle and rule of being, as unfolded in divine Science, the interpretation therein will be found to be the Comforter that leadeth into all truth.
S&H 426:8-11When the destination is desirable, expectation speeds our progress. The struggle for Truth makes one strong instead of weak, resting instead of wearying one.

2. HUMILITY REQUIRED
and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.
S&H 6:17 "God is Love." More than this we cannot ask, higher we cannot look, farther we cannot go. To suppose that God forgives or punishes sin according as His mercy is sought or unsought, is to misunderstand Love and to make prayer the safety-valve for wrong-doing.
S&H 329:26-29 (to ;) The pardon of divine mercy is the destruction of error. If men understood their real spiritual source to be all blessedness, they would struggle for recourse to the spiritual and be at peace;

3. EXAMINE YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE CHRIST-ENTER INTO HIS SANCTUARY
28 And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him:
S&H 15:9 To enter into the heart of prayer, the door of the erring senses must be closed. Lips must be mute and materialism silent, that man may have audience with Spirit, the divine Principle, Love, which destroys all error.
S&H 21:9-12 If the disciple is advancing spiritually, he is striving to enter in. He constantly turns away from material sense, and looks towards the imperishable things of Spirit.

4. FAITH REQUIRED
and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this?
S&H 297:20 Faith is higher and more spiritual than belief. It is a chrysalis state of human thought, in which spiritual evidence, contradicting the testimony of material sense, begins to appear, and Truth, the ever-present, is becoming understood. Human thoughts have their degrees of comparison. Some thoughts are better than others. A belief in Truth is better than a belief in error, but no mortal testimony is founded on the divine rock. Mortal testimony can be shaken. Until belief becomes faith, and faith becomes spiritual understanding, human thought has little relation to the actual or divine.

5. OBEDIENCE AND COMMITMENT
They said unto him, Yea, Lord.
Mis 63:15 Jesus came to seek and to save such as believe in the reality of the unreal; to save them from this false belief; that they might lay hold of eternal Life, the great reality that concerns man, and understand the final fact, — that God is omnipotent and omnipresent; yea, "that the Lord He is God; there is none else beside Him," as the Scriptures declare.
342:21 Christian Science awakens the sinner, reclaims the infidel, and raises from the couch of pain the helpless invalid. It speaks to the dumb the words of Truth, and they answer with rejoicing. It causes the deaf to hear, the lame to walk, and the blind to see. Who would be the first to disown the Christliness of good works, when our Master says, "By their fruits ye shall know them"?

6. FEEL THE CHRISTLY TOUCH IN THOUGHT AND MOTIVE
29 Then touched he their eyes,
86:4-6 Jesus knew, as others did not, that it was not matter, but mortal mind, whose touch called for aid.
Mis ix:10 The easel of time presents pictures — once fragmentary and faint — now rejuvenated by the touch of God's right hand. Where joy, sorrow, hope, disappointment, sigh, and smile commingled, now hope sits dove-like.
S&H 300:13-17 The temporal and unreal never touch the eternal and real. The mutable and imperfect never touch the immutable and perfect. The inharmonious and self-destructive never touch the harmonious and self-existent.

7. IN PROPORTION TO OUR FAITH….
saying, According to your faith be it unto you.
Mis 229:20-24 The confidence of mankind in contagious disease would thus become beautifully less; and in the same proportion would faith in the power of God to heal and to save mankind increase, until the whole human race would become healthier, holier, happier, and longer lived.
69:9-10 Thus it is that the real, ideal man appears in proportion as the false and material disappears.
140:8-12 We shall obey and adore in proportion as we apprehend the divine nature and love Him understandingly, warring no more over the corporeality, but rejoicing in the affluence of our God.

8. LIBERATION: BELIEF BECOMES UNDERSTANDING
9. And their eyes were opened; and
Mis 210:29-30 …Love opens the eyes of the blind, rebukes error, and casts it out.
Mis 368:3-6 Even so, Father, let the light that shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not, dispel this illusion of the senses, open the eyes of the blind, and cause the deaf to hear.
