NOTES AND REFERENCES FROM SUNDAY, DEC 5, 1999 This week’s Bible Lesson contained the story of the blind man who was healed by Jesus. I love this story because it points out the difference in view points between what Jesus saw and what the disciples saw. Jesus saw a man born only from his birth. Not blind before he was born. The disciples saw a man that was always blind because of the sins of either his parents or of him before he was born. This was an unmistakable statement by our Master of pre-existence; that Life is infinite. . John 9:1-4 When we are seeking health, money, relationships, grades, or whatever it is that we think we need, we can go to that verse in Ecclesiastes and realize that our real mission is to recognize our original perfection Mrs. Eddy talks about. (My 262:1 “God creates man perfect and eternal in His own image. Hence man is the image, idea, or likeness of perfection --an ideal which cannot fall from its inherent unity with divine Love, from its spotless purity and original perfection.”) Tha’s the better self, the real person that we have always been and always will be. Once we embrace that complete identity we quit trying to make a sick body well or an empty bank account full or a lonely existence one of fulfilling companionship. We discover what has always been there—our completeness. If we really are witnessing the completeness of the idea that is “us” then we can be grateful for our perfection and see our human experience conform to that thought. That is why a practitioner always stays with the truth about you and refuses to accept the mortal condition. (Isn’t interesting that we usually call a practitioner to either get something we think we don’t have or get rid of something we don’t want?) If we really trust all to God then we express patience. That is what faith is. It’s the only truly honest position. Anxiety, worry and fear means we don’t trust. I means we are not relying on what is true and we are proceeding from a dishonest position. Why? Because we are believe a lie about us—the lie of lack! What is fear? It is ingratitude in advance! When we fear the worst we’re already ungrateful for the bad stuff that is going to happen. In Christian Science we call that malpractice against ourselves (THAT IS THE OPPOSITE OF PRAYER). The opposite of fear must therefore be gratitude. Couldn’t that be why Jesus’ first words in the raising of Lazarus was, “Father I thank thee..” II Cor 9:8 See you all next week. |
