7/25/99 Divine Influence in Daily Events

Notes and references from Sunday School Class of July 25, 1999
Bring Inspiration to Day to Day Activities

If you recall, we were discussing exercise, eating donuts and going to movies. The question is naturally asked, “How do you think spiritually when you are involved in such human events. The answer lies not in the activity itself but in the motive or the quality of thought that is brought to our human events.
It is essential that we separate spiritual fact from human opinion. We should not do things thoughtlessly but with thought prepared by daily study.
We don’t just sit in a room and pray for everything to be all right. That is not Christian Science. We must bring the inspiration resulting from that prayer into our daily events. Then we will act with spiritual dominion over material activities not in submission to the lust, anger, pride or ego that we feel when we are tempted to trust matter. Let’s start with the definition of FAN from Science and Health.

S&H 586:7 FAN. Separator of fable from fact; that which gives action to thought.

“See thou hurt not the holy things of Truth” --Don’t let personality limit in any direction Truth and Love and Love and Truth’s divine influence in our daily lives. “Weigh your thoughts and actions” and “see thou hurt not the holy things of Truth.” Look at Mrs. Eddy’s instructions to her class of students at her Metaphysical College in 1899.

Mis 280:3-17
The third picture-lesson is from Revelation, where, at the opening of the seals, one of the angels presented himself with balances to weigh the thoughts and actions of men; not angels with wings, but messengers of pure and holy thoughts that say, See thou hurt not the holy things of Truth.
You have come to be weighed; and yet, I would not weigh you, nor have you weighed. How is this? Because God does all, and there is nothing in the opposite scale. There are not two,--Mind and matter. We must get rid of that notion. As we commonly think, we imagine all is well if we cast something into the scale of Mind, but we must realize that Mind is not put into the scales with matter; then only are we working on one side and in Science.

The result of examining you thoughts and doing you daily study is that you will be receptive to the “ still, small voice of Truth” that you will hear as a Lion roaring.

I Kings 19:11,12
And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

S&H 323:28-32
The effects of Christian Science are not so much seen as felt. It is the "still, small voice" of Truth uttering itself. We are either turning away from this utterance, or we are listening to it and going up higher.

S&H 559:8-11 The "still, small voice" of scientific thought reaches over continent and ocean to the globe's remotest bound. The inaudible voice of Truth is, to the human mind, "as when a lion roareth."

Notice Mrs. Eddy’s use of the comma after still. It is a little voice that we only hear when we are very still—no pride, anger, puffed up personality (ours or others) getting in the way.

Mis 281:32
You will need, in future, practice more than theory. You are going out to demonstrate a living faith, a true sense of the infinite good, a sense that does not limit God, but brings to human view an enlarged sense of Deity.
Remember, it is personality, and the sense of personality in God or in man, that limits man.
