9/19/99 creator vs Maker

Notes and references from Sunday School, Sept 19, 1999
Maker vs. creator

In the first edition of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy capitalized the word “Creator” consistent with her system of capitalization. In the Concordance to the Complete Works of Mary Baker Eddy one can look at all the synonyms she uses in the textbook by going to the end of the citation listed under the heading “God”. You will then find that “creator” is not capitalized. Why did she change the capitalization for that word? According to the archivist at The Mother Church Mrs. Eddy realized that when you “create” something it had a beginning—it started from nothing. When something is “made” it come from something else. An example is found in the Bible when God created man from the dust of the ground in the second account of creation. In the first account (the spiritual account) He made man in his image and likeness. We get more evidence of this idea from Isaiah when God created Jacob and made (formed) Israel.

Gen 2:7
And the Lord God formed (translations =created) man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Gen 1:26 (to :)
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:

Isa 43:7
Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

Isa 43:1 (to :)
But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed (translation=make) thee, O Israel, Fear not:

S&H 256:6-7
Mind, not matter, is the creator.

S&H 143:26-27
Mind is the grand creator, and there can be no power except that which is derived from Mind.

S&H 305:6-8
Man, in the likeness of his Maker, reflects the central light of being, the invisible God.

Matter is the nothingness of which beliefs come from and vis-a-versa. When you realize that you are made of Gods own substance then dominion is yours. You have a choice what to believe. On one side there is willpower, manipulation and the “fixing” of matter just the way you like it or believe you need it. On the other side there is the influence of divine Mind and your total and complete submission to God’s divine influence in your life.

S&H 563:7 (to ?)
… why should we stand aghast at nothingness?

S&H 570:18-22 (to ;)
What if the old dragon should send forth a new flood to drown the Christ-idea? He can neither drown your voice with its roar, nor again sink the world into the deep waters of chaos and old night.

S&H 97:23-28 the
the higher Truth lifts her voice, the louder will error scream, until its inarticulate sound is forever silenced in oblivion.
"He uttered His voice, the earth melted." This Scripture indicates that all matter will disappear before the supremacy of Spirit.
