Hi everyone, This week we have (in addition to the story of Noah), the healing of mental illness from Mark. Each week we will break down these healings in the lesson into the steps of a Christian Science treatment. This will help you understand the Science of Jesus' system of healing and will also show how consistent Mrs. Eddy's discovery is to the Gospel. We will do this by looking at each part of the healing and then finding correlative passages from Science and Health. (there are many more..I am sure you can do an even better job then I did..try it.) The result will be an understandable Science. As you read the citations in order you will find you are giving a treatment. Do it with authority. This healing treatment has five steps: (1) Expectation (2) Expose the lie..do not tolerate or condone it (3) Speak to error with the understanding that it is nothing, no power (4) Claim for your patient that he is a spiritual being! Matter has no power and has never been part of his being (5) Your patient has never been separated from the Christ ideal and may now be liberated from the false claim to his rightful place and perfection Mark 1:21-27 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught. And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes. And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him. And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him. STEPS OF THE TREATMENT (1) Expectation: (Jesus) taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes. 14:25 Entirely separate from the belief and dream of material living, is the Life divine, revealing spiritual understanding and the consciousness of man's dominion over the whole earth. This understanding casts out error and heals the sick, and with it you can speak "as one having authority." 395:6 Like the great Exemplar, the healer should speak to disease as one having authority over it, leaving Soul to master the false evidences of the corporeal senses and to assert its claims over mortality and disease. The same Principle cures both sin and sickness. When divine Science overcomes faith in a carnal mind, and faith in God destroys all faith in sin and in material methods of healing, then sin, disease, and death will disappear. (2) Expose the lie..do not tolerate or condone it...And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, Saying: Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? My 211:9 All that error asks is to be let alone; even as in Jesus' time the unclean spirits cried out, "Let us alone; what have we to do with thee?" 6:26-27 He came teaching and showing men how to destroy sin, sickness, and death. 186:19 (to 2nd .) The only power of evil is to destroy itself. 222:31-1 (to ,) We must destroy the false belief that life and intelligence are in matter, 233:29-30 The utterance of truth is designed to rebuke and destroy error. 374:15 Through immortal Mind, or Truth, we can destroy all ills which proceed from mortal mind. 398:1-10 Sometimes Jesus called a disease by name, as when he said to the epileptic boy, "Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him." 398: 1-10 It is added that "the spirit [error] cried, and rent him sore and came out of him, and he was as one dead," — clear evidence that the malady was not material. These instances show the concessions which Jesus was willing to make to the popular ignorance of spiritual Life-laws. Often he gave no name to the distemper he cured. (5) Your patient has never been separated from the Christ ideal and may now be liberated from the false claim to his rightful place and perfection ...And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him. Un 42:16 With Christ, Life was not merely a sense of existence, but a sense of might and ability to subdue material conditions. No wonder "people were astonished at his doctrine; for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes." 150:26 The doctrine that man's harmony is governed by physical conditions all his earthly days, and that he is then thrust out of his own body by the operation of matter, — even the doctrine of the superiority of matter over Mind, — is fading out. 304:9 This is the doctrine of Christian Science: that divine Love cannot be deprived of its manifestation, or object; that joy cannot be turned into sorrow, for sorrow is not the master of joy; that good can never produce evil; that matter can never produce mind nor life result in death. The perfect man — governed by God, his perfect Principle — is sinless and eternal. |
